On March 5, 2015 Carson Graham Secondary hosted its annual Viva Voce Celebration of Learning. This celebration showcases our Grade 10 International Baccalaureate (IB) Personal Projects along with our IB Diploma Programme students sharing their personal reflections on their learning. It is truly an awesome experience for students, staff, parents and our broader community. In some ways, it is difficult to put into words but this event encapsulates the culture of Carson Graham and further illustrates our commitment to excellence. Without a doubt, our IB learner profile characteristics come to life.
Our Grade 10 students have been working for the last 12 months developing and completing their personal project before presentation day. To provide a little background, our students are assigned to a teacher advisor that guides them through the design process, goal setting, research and their process journals.Throughout the year, our students meet with their advisors who provide ongoing feedback that sets the stage for our Personal Project Exhibition. This innovative use of instructional time is generously supported by our Parent Advisory Council.
The process is focused on inquiry, fosters an interdisciplinary approach to learning and most importantly, is personal and truly individualized.
Moving along our IB continuum, our Grade 12 Diploma Programme students were sharing their reflections on a particular aspect on the core of the IB Diploma Programme which includes Creativity, Action and Service (CAS),Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay. Our student presentations, which took place in the same evening, were both impressive and profound as students reflected on their growth within the past two years. Congratulations to all those involved!
