What happens when you combine a bunch of chaotic teenagers and a medieval form of art? In this blog I’ll talk about my most recent project and my experiences presenting it.
My Process for this Project
This project really helped me learn more about the Renaissance and how society evolved to be the way it is today but also helped me discover more about worldview. We did many different studies of the Renaissance by learning about the innovations and evolution that happened in this time periods. The assignments mostly consisted of reading and reflecting to help us learn. This really helped us come to our conclusions of worldview and it was also very helpful for answering the driving question “What can we learn from the past and why is it important today?” For me, I came to the conclusion that we can learn from our past mistakes to better inform ourselves for future predicaments.
One of our first steps in the project was to create an art piece in SuperimposeX and a paragraph to go along with it:
Renaissance art paragraph: When we reflect on the past, it shows us how lucky we are today with our better quality of life and it can help us innovate on a path towards a prosperous future. For knowledge, I chose a painting of a book. This shows the spread of knowledge due to the greater availability of books resulting in a more educated society. We continue to innovate and our move forward in the dissemination of literature using formats like braille and audio books. I used the image of a printing press for society, because in my opinion the printing press helped change society by providing knowledge to the masses. Readily available literature is important to bring a society into the next stages of development, while having a highly educated society. I chose a quill to represent the changes in the economy when something new and innovative is introduced to the public. In a way, this can change history forever. In conclusion, these three ideas are a sure fire way to bring our society forward into a better future, both in terms of prosperity and quality of life.
In the final piece of this project, we created props and costumes for our tableaux representing worldview from different time periods, namely medieval, Renaissance and modern times. This is the assignment I am the most proud of and invested the most time in. I showcased my skills in propmaking in this assignment, creating a scroll, a sundial, a mask, a boat, a clock, a telescope, and an oil tanker.
My Feelings on the Presentation
Some of the most positive aspects of our final presentation of the tableau assignment included working with a experienced and collaborative team and doing our best to thoroughly answer the driving question. Some of our challenges were that there were not enough curtains for every team so our team had to take a substitute that were slightly too short and a little unstable. This made some of the aspects of our tableaux more difficult to present and added considerable stress to the presentation.
My Progress Since the Last Project
Since the previous project Power Play or How It Started, I believe I have improved upon my use of SuperimposeX and my abilities to problem solve, even while collaborating with other people, have evolved.
