Blizzard Wizards vs Destination Imagination

What Is DI

This project was all about creating a meaningful story and performing it on stage with props.  In  Destination Imagination, my team had to specifically build a puppet to convey a story from the past.  It also had to portray an archeological discovery that changes the way we think about the past.  Compared to other projects I have done this year, DI was the project with the strictest parameters due to the fact that we had to perform in a regional competition. In this project, there was a big focus on teamwork, time management, and conveying entertaining and informative stories.

How I Felt About This Project

I really enjoyed collaborating with a group of talented and enthusiastic learners.  I feel if I attempted this project alone, I would be overwhelmed with work and components of it would feel utterly impossible without others who specialize in the fields where I lack strength.  My favourite part of this project was collaborating on creating a well-rounded story to perform.  Memorizing my lines for the performance was a part I feel I could improve upon.  Next time I do this project, I’m going to practice more diligently and save more time to go over my lines.  Another aspect of DI that I found challenging was getting all of my group members in one place.  However, in the end, we figured it out by communicating clearly and effectively over text and email.  The thing that I am most proud of in this project is all of the props that we created for the presentation at Regionals.  I worked hard on designing the props so that my entire team could have an easier time creating them.  I pushed myself to put final touches on the puppet and the other props for our presentation.

What I Learned

This project let me develop skills that I lacked or struggled with, such as time management, communication, planning, and teamwork.  This will be very valuable to me in the future as they are some fundamental skills that I was previously struggling with. Because of my specific skill set in art, I helped a lot with the props and puppet.  This helped me improve even more in art and specifically my techniques in prop making. To make the props I had to exercise a little bit of trial and error to create the best end product that I could.

Destination Imagination really pushed me and my entire team to work harder and collaborate .  It was a valuable experience and I look forward to participating in DI again.
