mPOL 2025 ๐ŸŒฑ

Declaration: Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.

As I reflect on my year so far, I realize that unlike past MPOLs and TPOLs which were more fabricated to PLP specifically, this reflection feels like it encompasses my learning in every single class. Every aspect of who I am as a learner has come out in different ways across my courses and while previous years have contributed to my growth as well, grade 11 feels especially significant because the classes I take align more with who I am and what I want to improve on.

VMV: Vision, Mission and Values:

Growth in my Mission:

Letโ€™s start with what I think is most important to me. My mission. I wanted to allow myself to explore ideas deeply, especially when researching, and a key part of this has been making sure I fully read through articles instead of skimming them. This ties directly to my vision of becoming a deeper critical thinker.

The project that best demonstrates my progress toward my VMV is the reconciliACTION project from the first BCFP exhibition. In this project, I developed my individual research skills while also improving my ability to communicate with my group but most important, the public. I asked questions, engaged in discussions and made sure our ideas were clear.

Where I showed growth and learning:

  • literature notes
  • deciding and designing layout
  • cohesitivty of booth
  • talking to the public

Reflection on my values:

Preparation: Iโ€™ve stayed on top of my work, managing my time well and showing up prepared. I have realized what doesnโ€™t work for me  and developed other systems to manage my work load and tasks and will stick with it. One major success in my growth as a learner has been my ability to fully engage with research instead of just skimming. For example, when researching the Cold War, I made a conscious effort to read articles thoroughly and actually understood what I was looking for, which has been a struggle in the past.

Communication and Collaboration: Iโ€™ve been improving at communicating with teachers, asking questions and clarifying when needed, which has helped me reach the outcomes I want. As the year goes on I know I will continue in the right direction and keep growing.  But, one thing Iโ€™ve noticed as an area that needs a lil work is   phrasing feedback. Iโ€™ve noticed that my ability to give feedback depends on how confident I am in the topic. If I am knowledgeable, I can provide strong feedback, but if I feel unsure, I struggle to contribute meaningful suggestions. So moving forwards I need to figure out strategies to provide helpful feedback in areas where Iโ€™m less confident. instead of feedback on content, focus on delivery, clarity or aesthetics of a piece.

Engagement:
This year I have made many new friends and I feel like I have done a good job at fostering a positive learning environment where people can collaborate well and bounce ideas off of each other. I feel confident in my abilities to work in groups and collaborate, it has never been a real problem for me and I will continue to strengthen this skill as I carry on.

What I have noticed is that in quick group discussions I take a little bit to warm up which makes it a struggle for me. To improve I will push myself to build off others ideaโ€™s earlier and remind myself of where my knowledge lies.  I know this goal is easily in my grasp and I am already doing better already, not just in school settings but outside as well.

Knowing that I am fully capable of carrying on and improving on my values is great, So in summary:

  • Keep Doing: Staying on top of my work, fully reading articles, and effectively communicating with teachers.
  • Change: Work on giving feedback in areas where I feel less confident and push myself to participate in discussions earlier.
  • Start Doing: Develop a strategy for approaching quick collaboration situations so I can contribute meaningfully right away.

I can see clear progress in my research, communication, and collaboration skills. At the same time, I recognize that thereโ€™s still room to grow. The rest of this year is an opportunity to keep building on these strengths and working on my areas for growth. By staying intentional about my learning and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone, I know I will continue improving.

Thank you for listening, and I look forward to seeing how I grow by the end of the year!
