Intro
Take Your Kid to Word Day is a provincial wide event for all Grade 9s to go with their one of their parent’s or any adult’s workplace to learn about different careers and experiences.Â
The shape of my day
I went with my friend to her dad’s workplace. He works for a construction company and we learnt about different roles their, what they do. First we walked to a construction site on Alberni street in Downtown and we got a tour of a unit in new residential building that is still in the process of being built. Next, we got to meet different people from different departments like Human Resources, Health and Safety and the Designing. They talked about what they do, how they got their job and what their favourite part of their job is. I also interviewed them for my video which you can watch below. And that’s what I did that day.Â
How does experiencing a workday shape our view of career choices?Â
After this experience, I got to interview different people with different roles and I was particularly interested in the designing department. I was already into art and designing and kinda had the idea of being an interior designer in mind before so this work experience day helped me understand more of this career.Â
My VideoÂ
In my video, I included some lots of different shots and angles of objects, people and places. There are also some interviews of the people that work there. It was basically a short 3 minute vlog about what I did, what I learnt and how it went. Some shots for example are the Ken Burns effect, the establishing shot, bird’s eye view and more!Â
