Intro
Hii! Welcome to my blog. This is a post about our most recent Maker’s project, ‘Running a Remake’. For this project, we watched (lots of times) a 1 minute long silent horror film called ‘RUN!’ and we had to recreate it with our groups (My group was me, Oliver and Isaac). Our goal was to make an exact copy of the film. To do this, we had to write a screenplay, storyboard and make a first draft. I’ll talk more about those things in more detail down below!
Driving Question: How might we learn video skills by recreating a short film?
I think that recreating a short film (especially this one) is a good way to learn new video skills because in this film, there A LOT of shots and sound effects that we had to try and be as accurate as possible so we had to think about the place of where we were filming it, the angles, the timing, the sounds and putting everything together. Putting it together was I think one of the hardest parts because we had to pay a lot of attention to the timing of the clips and make sure it’s accurate to the original film.
First Draft
We made a first draft before writing a screenplay and storyboard. This was our first time recreating the short film. I was in another group with Emilia, Siena, and Griffin. We didn’t really pay that much attention to the costumes but I’d say that this was a pretty good first draft because it was the same timing as the original film, the location was good and the acting was good too. There were a few little details we missed but that’s why it’s our first draft and after this, we took time to look into the details and write our storyboard and screenplay.
Screenplay and storyboard
A screenplay is basically a dialogue or script including all the actions happening in the film, the speech and setting etc. We each wrote our own screenplay for this project but since this film was silent, we didn’t have to write any dialogue in it so we just wrote what the main character was doing in every single shot. And the storyboard is a visual breakdown of the whole film. I think that the storyboard was kind of helpful because it helped us visualise the main shots.
The final video
On the day of filming the final thing, I think that we were all prepared and ready because this time we tried to wear similar costumes to the actual film, we had everything planned out and the filming went smoothly and surprisingly didn’t take too long. After that, Isaac edited it all and we created the sound effects. In the end, I think that our remake of the film was pretty decent. Here it is!!
Curricular Connections
✏️ Curricular Competency: I can analyze ideas and make supported conclusions. Recognizing the tools and process needed to build and test a design solution.
🧩 Concept : I used technology to purposefully find, conceive, create and tell a story in all my work.
✨ Skill: I make my moving images with intention from screenplay, storyboard, shooting, editing and sharing.
This was a fun project to do because I’ve always wanted to try and film a mini movie and it was fun for me to play a role in it. I also loved working together to achieve a goal and be proud of the end result.
In conclusion, I had fun working on this project and I can’t wait to do more projects like this in the future.
That’s it for this post and thanks for reading! 😀
