Soooo…uhhhhh… I had preeeetttyyyy wild encounter on Thursday. I was all dressed up, black jeans and blue button-up shirt tucked under, and there were two dragons just sitting there! What’s even more shocking was that they were expecting me. I smile, trying to look as friendly as possible, hoping that I don’t end up getting eaten by them… so how the hell did I get myself into this situation.
In the wake of a new project, we got sent back to the future with one question in mind. “How do you set yourself up to become the person you wanna be?” The pathway in this mission was clear. All we needed to do was follow the guidelines given to us by the headmaster, but to do so, we needed to learn more about ourselves. There was much to learn, but a limited amount of time, approximately 3 weeks.
Many of the tasks we had to complete had us answering questions about ourselves, and at the end, it would give us a result. One of which was done using an ancient artifact. This artifact had a very pretty blue colour, and it was somewhat like a blueprint for education. I’ve actually used my blueprint before, a few years prior, so this wasn’t a difficult task to complete. It was interesting to see how much things had changed though.
Throughout the times I spent completing the tasks, I learned quite a few new neat things about myself. In one of the first assignments, it talked about hard skills and soft skill. The difference between them are as such: Hard skills are the ones that you think of having if you’re smart. It is a specific skill or knowledge you have that will help you in doing a specific task. There isn’t that much flexibility job wise for people with hard skills as people who has soft skills. Soft skill are more of personalities, and is more like the skills you see in the core competencies. They help in doing interpersonal activities and unique tasks. I feel like people who have soft skills have a more flexible life and mindset.
I have a lot more soft skills than hard skills. Some soft skills that are my strengths are empathy, adaptability, problem solving, and my attention to detail. I still do tend to miss some details, but overall, it’s still one of my strengths. Time management used to be one, but now I’ve lost it. It’s really hard to balance out everything in my life, like having fun or resting time and the time needed to work on all my projects.
A hard skill that I have would be my fine motor skills. This skill stems from one of my hobbies, building things, specifically models. It doesn’t matter what it’s made of, whether it’s Lego, metal, or wood. Below is a gallery of the things I’ve made so far. Keep in mind that this is a newly found hobby.
In the middle of all of this, a major event happened, causing many of us to be transported to elsewhere far away. It made many of us miss out on finishing an assignment. It was a bummer. We had no choice but to wait until someone came and rescued us. Luckily someone did. After three long days, two brave warriors brought along with them two big metal boxes. Everyone loaded up inside, the boxes roared with life, and we got transported back to mission grounds. And so, we resumed.
Skills weren’t the only things I learned. I learned about the way I learn best, my personalities, traits, interests, and I also made a resume and cover letter. All of these things led up to the final mission. The most important thing in this project and is the why we’ve been doing all the little tasks (aside from the main goal of this project, which is to learn more about ourselves and prepare us for the world). It’s time, to start our pitch.
The Dragon Encounter
So here we are again, back to the two dragons. I walked into the back of the library and there they were. I was terrified, shaking a little and nervously picking at myself and fidgeting. I composed myself, handed them my resume and cover letter, and presented myself. It went great. After my pitch, they gave me advice on what to do differently and what I should do when I have a real job interview.
One advice given to me from one of my dragons is what I should do about my weaknesses. He said that I shouldn’t try to improve on them, but raise them and use them so that they won’t drag me down. For example, instead of only doing the things that I’m good at, I should do the things that I’m not good at as well. This will let me know exactly what my weakness is, and how I will be able to use it to my advantage.
This advice really stayed with me. I’ve always thought of weaknesses as things I should try and improve on, or make them my strength. Now that I know things aren’t like that, I can change my ways of doing things. I will still need to figure out how I can use my weakness though, but that wouldn’t be too much of an issue since I am good at solving problems.
So that’s what I got to do on my Thursday afternoon.
