Rising to the Occasion

In my first year as a senior student, it has presented me with many truths about the reality of life in school. As much as I may dislike the onslaught of tests that challenge my mental sanity it did present me with an opportunity. An opportunity to explore different ways to learn. An opportunity to overcome pressures and realities that will only continue to increase as I grow older. I share with you today my plan for the next 5 months in school as I rise to the challenges that my classes throw at me.

Rising to the moment will never be an easy task. In the beat poetry unit, the presentation at the winter exhibition provided a very real moment in which I was to rise to. My experience was quite mixed in success and failure in the poem reading itself. I have always enjoyed writing and poetry was an outlet of my passion making it one of the easiest sections of the project. I am proud of what I accomplished in my poetry book but I would be lying to myself if I didn’t mention how I felt I could have improved in other areas. Finding the balance between stretching outside of my comfort zone and topics I am passionate about defines my learning. In this unit I found myself finding my passions doing what was easiest to often. Although it is a confidence builder it lacks the same potential for growth. In the next year, I am committing to stretch past the comfortable confines of my own passions.

The Balloon Fiesta was just one of the activities from the New Mexico Field study that were highlights of the 6-day trip

I brought up how insanely packed the schedule was during the New Mexico field school but I wouldn’t be doing it justice if I didn’t mention how amazing many of the activities were.

One of the places we visited in New Mexico was the VLA

From Los Alamos to Trinity it was a historical whirlwind of sites and memorials that have shaped the nuclear age. The PGP prong of the trip was stretch outside of my comfort zone and I want to highlight how I stepped up when I had an opportunity. Even during the adversity, I found a way to put aside my urges to give up on engaging my brain and continued to push on. I was not perfect but I am proud of how I rose to the occasion in the face of adversity during the trip.

With the advent of our current humanities project, we are creating a full class movie. Our roles in the movie are going to stretch me into places that I am not the most comfortable. It will be a great opportunity for me to challenge myself and to grow as a learner. To do this is will not be easy but the challenge is simple in a sense. It will just require me to get more comfortable being uncomfortable.

What skills do you think I have the greatest area for improvment?
