All or Nothing

Johnston heights is the home of the 2018 DI BC provincials

When it comes to do DI you gotta put everything on the line for your presentation. If you would like to learn a little more about DI or are confused please read my regionals post. Whether it be leaving behind any reservations you have about any of your team members or reservations about the whole DI tournament. During the provincial tournament me and my group layed ourselves on the line for the challenge. As we improved our challenge solution trying to repeat our #1 performance as we did at regionals. *** Spoiler Alert *** We don’t, however what we learned from it is far more important than any 1st place award we could be given. Throughout the post I will take you through the changes we made, how my group worked, the experience I have gained and what I will do different next time.

It was key to create goals more moving forward to plan for provincials

Our changes were mainly small tune ups in the realm of smoothing out our lines to the point that the seem much more conversation. We also worked to make our cues much clearer to prevent awkward silences on stage.

Reflecting on our regionals performance

We also made some minor adjustments to props to make our presentation to look even more realistic. Outside of those improvements we only practices and memerized our lines better than regionals. Some part of DI that is often overlooked but I think is essential is teamwork, and that’s something i felt we could drastically improve upon for next year. Our teamwork was never extraordinary to begin with and we didn’t even make an effort between provincials and regionals to improve it at all.

It was now time to present at Johnston heights secondary. We all went in there feeling a little nervous but prepared at the same time. We came of a great performance in our instant challenge so were prepared and ready to perform at our best. As always the 8 minutes we were up presenting felt like it passed as a blur. Right after the presentation we looked back as everything went to plan. Overall I thought our presentation went well, a few missed lines but we stayed in character and fixed the holes quickly. To add our structure worked perfect once again, giving us maximum points in that department. On the day of DI all of us had to leave for the airport to leave for our ottawa trip leaving our placement for DI in suspense. Was it 1st, 2nd, or maybe we got thrown off the podium entirely? We had to wait a few days to find out

5th Place!!!

My original reaction was total disbelief. Our presentation was better in this competition than the last so why we would lose 5 positions even with better competition is totally beyond me. Regardless it doesn’t change what I believe we have accomplished as a team. As much as DI is hard to think about enjoying but I did like working with the people I did and I would like to thank Isy, Luca, Robin and Owen for being great team members and making this slightly torturing experience as fun as possible
