Well, that happened.
In case you were wondering, Destination Imagination (DI) is a competition for kids and teens outside of school. It has challenges that kids work in groups to find creative solutions for. There’s also instant challenges that we have to do on the day of competition. You don’t know anything about it until you arrive. It can be pretty difficult, but my team came in first in the instant challenge at Regionals.
There are five actual challenges, and my group (Paisley, Izzy, Nik, and I) chose the Fine Arts challenge, Change of Tune, which is about creating a musical. But don’t ask me about it, ask these random kids!
So, you can tell that this is pretty complicated. We needed to have a variety of things in our presentation, but at first we didn’t. Our group had a lot of conflict, but by the end, we were working well together. It may have taken several months (4), but we worked together well eventually. Our sets and props were a bit rushed, but they came together. However, our boat prop was a little hard to recognize. We spent a lot of time on it, but poor communication might have made a couple of group members uncomfortable with it.
Our script and songs were a strong point for our team, and we worked hard to develop them. However, I think we were lacking a bit in enthusiasm. That’s definitely something we’ll be working on.
I personally don’t think that my team had our presentation go exactly along with our vision. Our scores showed a lot of areas of opportunity, including our team choice elements and our set change. During our presentation time, we couldn’t figure out how to set up the projector, and ended up with a difficult-to-see image on our screen.
The solution we created checked off everything we needed, and I think our teamwork will carry us through the next tournament. Thanks for reading!
