Into the Dragons Den

Who here has heard of Dragons Den or Shark Tank. In case you haven’t heard of these shows, they are about people who come on the show with a business proposition for the hosts of the show, and the hosts then decide if they want to agree to the deal. For my most recent project at school, we held our own Dragons Den, but with a bit of a twist. Instead of pitching a product to the dragons, we would pitch our selves, and the dragons would evaluate us on whether they would hire us. But before we could pitch our selves, we had to learn what we had to offer.

One of the first things that I learned about my self is what personality type I had. Both times in my life that I have done this test (both on different websites) I have gotten the personality type ISFP – which stands for Introversion Sensing Feeling and Perceiving. People with this personality type tend to work better alone, and tend to have difficulty planning their steps. If you want to learn more about this personality, or find your own, you can do that here. But why is it so important to learn your personality type. I think that knowing your personality can help you understand how you think, and help you optimize your way of learning.

The next thing that I had to do for my project was prepare my pitch. To do this, I thought about what I could offer for a job. Here are some of the things that I came up with.

Teamwork. One of the most important qualities someone should have while applying for a job is the ability to work well with a team. Many jobs require you to work on a team with other people, and if you are unable to do that, or unable to accept orders from a team leader, you are going to have a difficult time finding jobs.

Technology. Nowadays, more and more jobs are becoming reliant on technology, which means that it pays to know how to use it. If you know how to manage a computer, or at least know how to solve a problems that commonly occur while using a device.

Problem Solving. The last skill that I presented to the dragons was my ability to find new solutions to problems. Your life’s not going to stay on the straight and easy path. There will be twists and turns and obstacles, but it’s how you overcome those challenges that will impact the path that you walk.
All of these traits are things that I think people need and should have to keep their lives moving, and skills that can help you get back up after you fall. But until that happens, just try and live you life your way.

That’s it for this blog, but I’ll see you next time.

Bye.
