Teamwork? Dream work? Let me explain in only a couple words: Teamwork= Soccer Team + Dream work= Maker Video = LIVE EVENT VIDEO!!!! How did I come to that conclusion? Well, you see, you are ALL in for a treat today. I filmed my soccer game, shot some shots, got some goals and even interviewed my teammate (Nicamh!). That is all what you are going to see in the video, but in this blog post there is more context regarding the ISTE Standards and how I demonstrated then through this project. You know the words, without further ado lets jump in!
ISTE Standard No. 1: Empowered Learner
Leveraging technology to take an active role in choosing, achieving, and demonstrating competency in a learning goal.
I’ve mentioned this one a couple times in my other posts for other projects and that the fact that it keeps popping up suggests (to me) that its an important one to learn and meet. In my opinion, I met this competency but getting there was the hard part. When Ms. Maxwell set interviewing someone as a requirement, I freaked out. The last time I interviewed someone, I was completely unprepared and although it turned out fine, it wasn’t as good as it could’ve been. So I took this as a chance to redeem myself, be prepared and ready for the interview. I’ve now had experience with using the mic’s, getting better angles, and having the light placed in the right spot while filming. I interview Nicamh at 7:30 pm, and its November in Vancouver so it was, obviously, pouring rain and very dark.
Luckily we had lights that lit up the field, but I had move around the camera a bit to get even a decent angle where you could see her face. I think this time I achieved and accomplished this goal for being more prepared and ready for the interview and I knew I wanted it to be good so I had backup questions, a place set up for the interview, a time, and I even cleared up some iCloud storage to have enough footage as I needed.
ISTE Standard No. 2: Creative Communicator
Communicating clearly and expressing myself creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate for my goal.
By now, you should have all figured out I’m a pretty outgoing person, and communicating has been a strong suit for me this year. Expressing myself has also been something I’m quite good at and I’ve been working on incorporating more tools, styles, formats etc… while doing that. To organize my thoughts I made a shot and what I was going to film I made a list on my notes app. I got accomplished 95% of what I wanted to do, and I’m proud of me for getting most of it done. I had a vision of what I wanted my final video to look like and I planned my shot list according to what I wanted in my final video.
I could’ve gotten the last couple shots, and I think it would’ve helped improve the video, but I filmed what I had time for and I think it turned out great.
In total, I used: Notes, Clips, iMovie, Snap seed, Things and Sketches Pro to create my finished product and boy I’m pretty happy with my result. I could’ve asked my dad to film a little bit of the game from a different perspective and I could’ve gotten myself on camera, explaining what I was doing and the event but that is all feedback and critique that I can work into my next (term 2) videos.
ISTE Standard No. 3: Launch Design Thinking Competency: Navigate Ideas
Taking creative risks in generating potential ideas and added to others’ ideas in ways that enhanced them. Screening ideas against criteria and constraints, and chose a form for prototyping and develop a step-by-step plan that identifies key stages and resources to carry out. Identifying and using appropriate tools, technologies, materials, and processes for production.
I talked about my shot list and how I planned shots but I had a plan throughout my whole process of the creation of the video. I kept it in Things and every time I completed a task, I check it off, and only when I was finished EVERYTHING, I checked off the whole to-do (and boy was that satisfying!).
I admit I could’ve taken more of a creative risk and done some asked more people for opinions but I did ask my teammates, who is a professional photographer to take some pictures of the game. I usually wouldn’t have sought help but I thought I could use some better quality pictures (other than my iPad). Some pictures are featured in the video down below! I used many tools to help my post-production process, but I could’ve used more during my production and pre-production processes.
Overall, I feel I accomplished being an Empowered Learner, and a Creative Communicator, but I feel I could work and improve more on meeting Navigate Ideas, which is what I’ll do. Now I’ve talked so much about this amazing video, and what I did to create it do you want to see it?! Yes? I hear a yes from the crowd, and your wish will be granted. My last video made in term 1 is presented down below, titled Live Event.
Thank you to Ms. Maxwell for teaching me this term and I’m very happy I got to share these 3 special months with her.
