Hello Humans.
Hope your all doing well, I’ve recently come back from my first ever field study! We were just on the Oregon Coast and in Washington for six days. Yes, I know. After six days with my classmates, I was almost driven to the brink of insanity.
While we were in Oregon, we worked on a journal and documented most of the places we went in Oregon. Such as Tillamook or Cannon Beach, we added photos, information, our thoughts, drawings, and much more!
It was super interesting and fun to participate in workshops at the Hatfield Marine Science Center. We made R.O.Vs (remotely operated vehicles), and we even participated in a citizen science project on gathering data on ghost shrimp! We also did some experiments with crabs, like, does the size of the crab affect their speed? Get more details in the book above this paragraph!
We went to Tillamook, which I swear has one of the best graphic design teams on the planet, as well as amazing web developers. We observed how cheese was made, why Tillamook was founded, tried some of their cheese (my favourite was their Colby Jack), and we went to their gift shop, where I got a nice lavender ice cream shirt.
I think one of my favourite places we went to was Wolf Haven! We learned about how to tell what animals ate by the teeth they had, and we checked out their grand old tree (I forgot what it’s specifically called). Last but definitely not least, we got to see the wolves! They were so cute, and we also learned about how they don’t make good pets and how to tell the difference between wolves and wolf dogs. I also bought some amazing photos of them from their gift shop.
We had to be very flexible for this trip since, on the very first day, our bus broke down. So we were sort of off on the side of the road for 20–30 minutes. Then a very cool person helped us out and towed us to where we were staying. By the end of the trip, we had the Seycove Van, a UHaul to carry our stuff, and a black Sprinter van. I co-piloted all three, which was very fun.
I definitely enjoyed this field study! This was also my first time going to the States, and the people were so nice! In my book, there’s a short page about cool people I’ve met, and if you want to get more information on most of the places we went, read the Going Coastal Book. Check it out! Here’s the link again:
