👋 Hey readers!
Have you ever almost stumbled off the side of a cliff (accidentally)? I have!
We’ve spent the last 5 weeks on our Humanities and Maker projects that were connected to our field study of the year! This time we spent 8 days together with me, 23 other students, and three teachers in the interior of BC and Alberta.
Like in Oregon, our main piece of evidence for this trip was a book we made in book creator! It will be your main source of information regarding the trip! You’ll find things like our Maker videos, the answer to the Driving Question, and much more. Our driving question for this project was:
“How has the geography of the West shaped who we are?”
My book will contain the answer to our driving question, my comic life, information on the five themes of geography, my Maker videos, information on some of the places we visited throughout the trip, and much more!
During the humanities portion of this trip, we focused on two competencies.
COMPETENCY: 😵💫 PROCESSING
“I CAN THINK CRITICALLY, CREATIVELY, AND REFLECTIVELY WITH A VARIETY OF STRATEGIES TO PROCESS IDEAS AND FURTHER MY UNDERSTANDING”.
We demonstrated this through our Books as we had to put the knowledge we learned into it, and I also processed the feedback I got on my work throughout the trip to refine it to be better.
COMPETENCY: 😄 COMMUNICATE
“I CAN EXPRESS AND REFLECT FOR COMMUNICATION BY DETERMINING APPROPRIATE AND EFFECTIVE FORMS FOR PURPOSE, AUDIENCE, AND MESSAGE”.
We demonstrated this through our interviews we conducted and during the creation of our books which served as a method of communication for our trip! We also talked to a lot of people to gather more information for our investigation into the west!
For the context of the hook at the beginning of me almost stumbling off a cliff, at Parker’s Ridge, a small bit of the trail was fairly thin, with a semi-sloped hill on the left and a cliff on the right. I almost fell a few times because my balance stinks when I’m dealing with small trails like that!
That about wraps up my reflection on the field study! Big thanks to everyone who made this possible for us!
Don’t forget to check out my Maker post for the trip!
Thanks for reading, and have a good day! :)
