Two people return to their cabin after a trip, and there is a large new building in the forest, there’s a company, with odd henchmen searching in the night, and no-one knows why they’re there…
Hey Everybody!
After Running a Remake, we then were tasked with making a 2 minute thriller film with our partners, I was with Finn, Parker, and Caelum. The purpose of Thrill Us was to allow us to showcase our new understanding of how Thriller films are produced.
Over the first few days we created the plot for our story:
“Two people return to their cabin, and there is a new company, that has weird henchmen, and no-one knows why they’re there, the two protagonists try to get to the bottom of it through interviewing people, and when the company figures out, they send a letter telling them to stop, but they continue anyways. After another interview, similar to the first, one of the henchmen shows up at the door.”
After we came up with the story, we then further developed the idea of our story and started to create other documents such as our storyboard for the film, here’s one part of it:
We also started workshopping titles, creating our Characters, deciding what we will bring, where will we film and much more.
In the end we decided to use one of Seycove’s portables for the majority of the film to give off the “vibe” of a log cabin, (thanks Yvette!). Throughout filming we did have some chaotic moments, luckily though we got through them and ended up using our filming time fairly well. After filming, we then did some editing where me and the others helped Finn (our primary editor) wherever we could.
Another focus throughout the project was examining other thrillers on YouTube and seeing what elements they used and how they used them. Some of the key elements that all of the thrillers used was the three C’s: Clock, Contract, and Crucible. Clock being the idea of a time constraint, contract being that there is no easy way out of the situation, and crucible, making it difficult for the protagonist of the story.
In the end, creating our short thriller film, Intervention, was a fun and challenging project. From developing the plot to filming and editing, although we had some tense moments we worked together to create a well thought out film that would captivate our audience. It was a thrilling experience for all of us as we navigated through the process of making a movie.
Thanks for reading this post and I’ll see you soon once again for my ChemHISTORY post!
