🇫🇷In The Name Of Nationalism🇫🇷

Hey everyone welcome back to my blog! Today we will be discussing my latest project. Nationalism! More specifically French Nationalism. Keep reading to learn all about what I learned and My expirience with this project.

So first things first I learned what Nationalism is. Nationalism is identification with one’s own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations. (Source). Once we established what nationalism is we decided which Country’s nationalism we wanted to look into, sticking with the timeline of 1800s-1900s.  I chose French nationalism because it was very interesting and full of big events that inspire me. I don’t regret choosing French Nationalism because it was so detailed and fun to learn about.

The Project

So lets talk about the project now. Once we had our assigned country’s we started by creating questions that we would answer in our video. For me I kept it simple so when we made the video my viewers would get the picture. My questions were who were the key figures in French Nationalism?, What were the key events that triggered French nationalism, where did French Nationalism Occur, Why did some people want change and others didn’t, How did Louis Philippe abdicating the thrown affect France? Once we had our questions it was time to research . Despite being a big uprising French Nationalism in the 18 and 1900s was hard to find reliable sources that were available. After days of research I had gained a solid understanding of the key figures and of French nationalism in 1800s-1900s.

Here are some of my notes:

So then it was time to write a script, my favourite part! The script didn’t take me too long to write because I had all my notes and answers to my questions so I was able to just copy and edit what I already had.

My Script:

Filming was the next step and for me it did not take long because most of my clips were animations that I made in Canva. It was super fun to create animations because Canva is so creative and user friendly. Once I had all my filming of me done and my animations the next part was editing so that it would all be put together and look professional. This was pretty easy to do since everything I had was videos including my animations so all I had to do was put them into IMovie and add voice overs to the animations.

Overall I am really happy with how my final video turned out. In the future something I would change or add is including sound into the background and add more photos.

What I learned

Other then learning what Nationalism and French Nationalism is I also learned all about how to properly cite my sources in my writing. We started off by doing an exercise where  we looked at two sources and using those sources we had to write a paragraph about slugs and snails. We practiced citing quotes and just general information we took from the sources that we put in our own words. I learned a lot about citing and I look forward to using it in the future. We also learned about reliable sources. To practice this we were given a TRAAP form which stands for Timeliness, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose. Using this method we looked at three different articles and determined wether or not they were reliable. Only one of three were reliable which was the Canadian Encyclopedia.

Here is my slugs and snails citation practice:

Here is a TRAAP Form:

“How has Nationalisms influence shaped the global structure? ”

I think Nationalisms influence has shaped the global structure because it gives people a pride or reason to fight for their country. Furthermore, when people our proud of their country they fight for it and share that pride for there country. That is Nationalism and there are so many important events in history and today that happened because of Nationalisms influence. Events such as the uprisings in 1848 that we talked about and now today people fighting for there country and fighting for change in there country. Nationalism has helped shape our borders and country’s that we have grown accustomed too.

Overall this project was super fun, interesting, and enlightening. The video and the research were my favourite parts and I think I learned a lot about citations. I hope you enjoyed this blog. As always have a great rest of your day and stay tuned for more!
