TPOL 2024 🎉

Tpol 2024

Hello everyone welcome back to my blog! Today! It is the last week of school which means its time to start Tpols! Tpols stand for Transitional presentation of learning and are a way for parents and teachers to meet with students so we can present our learning journey. In grade 8 I  did a Tpol as well but this year our main focus is on success behaviours and how that affects our learning. In this blog I will be talking about three success behaviours, my school year, and answering the driving question for Tpols “How can I showcase evidence to demonstrate that PLP Success Behaviors have prepared me to advance to the next grade?”. Before I begin I must do the POL declaration.

POL Declaration

Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning, I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.

This Year

Just like last year I had Maker, Science, and Humanities. Although Maker and Science ended last semester that are still part of my learning journey throughout this year so I will be reflecting on them again. Maker was a very fun course this year and we focused mainly on videography. I have always loved photography so it was very interesting and fun to develop and learn about videography. My favourite project in maker and the one I am most proud of is my investigative video which I did in Alberta. Another project I am super proud of in Maker is my thrill us Your Next video I got to make with my friends. Both demonstrated my growth in maker as a videographer and overall I got a proficient in maker which I am happy with. DI was a big learning curve for me because there were a lot of challenges to overcome but it was very rewarding because my group went from third to first overall and in instant challenge.

Science was another fun course where we focused on chemistry, biology, and electricity. I personally really enjoyed learning about the different elements where I did a deeper dive into Arsenic. Another project I enjoyed in science was learning about eco systems where in the end I made a news report about Wolf Culls. Both of these projects demonstrated my growth in science as a note taker and researcher because both required lots of research and note taking. Overall I got a proficient which I am proud of because science can be a very challenging subject especially in chemistry.

Lastly Humanities, Humanities has always been my favourite course because I love history and we got to learn about so much. Starting with the CPR and ending with WW1 we covered a lot in humanities and my favourite project was defiantly the WW1 comic. WW1 was very interesting to learn about and I put a lot of work into creating my comic as well as finding good sources and creating solid notes. When it came time for exhibition I was prepared and had a confident understating of the topic I was presenting. Another project I enjoyed in Humanities was the CPR project where I learned all about the Canadian Pacific Railroad, I am proud of the multi touch book I created in the end and I really enjoyed learning about the history of the railroad I see so often. Both of the projects I mention show my growth in humanities in not only researching but also enthusiasm for my learning and in my work. Overall I am proud of the work I put in for humanities and I got a proficient.

How can I showcase evidence to demonstrate that PLP Success Behaviours have prepared me to advance to the next grade?

To showcase evidence that PLP Success Behaviours have prepared me to advance to the next grade I will talk about three different success behaviours that I believe best describe me learning journey this year. This year has been full of ups and downs where I put in a lot of work and hours to produce the best work I can. I am proud of my work that I have submitted this year and I have learned a lot along the way. The success behaviours I will be highlighting today are Agency specifically seeking help, Engagement specifically enthusiasm, and self regulation specifically balance.

Agency

In my mPOL I talked about Agnecy and seeking help through my teachers. Since my mPOL I feel like I have grown and feel more confident asking questions and reaching out for help. This has helped me feel more sure of what I am doing and be more engaged in my learning.

Engagement

I feel like in terms of engagement specifically enthusiasm for my learning has been shown through my work and has helped drive me to work harder and to the best of my abilities. An example of this was in our latest project on WW1 where we explored the causes and battles of WW1 and made comics to share our knowledge. I really enjoyed learning about WW1 and because I was enthusiastic about the topic when it came to reasearch I took a lot of notes. When it came time to choose our topics for the comics I got to further research a topic I enjoyed and I learnt about the medics and surgeons lives during WW1. I did a lot of research and when it came time to write the comics I knew exactly what I was going to do and had a lot of fun executing it. I was able to finish the comic with three days to spare and in the end I would say that this WW1 project was my favourite project we did this year and maybe even the one I am most proud of because of the effort and time I put into it.

Here are some of my notes:

Self-Regulation

In self-regulation more specifically balance I think I have maintained balance between my schoolwork and my out of school life by setting To-Dos and due dates in things. Another way I have maintained balance is by keeping a good work ethic so that I strive to get my work done before play. This means focusing in class and out of class. An example where I focused on balancing homework and school is in the Nationalism project where we had to do a lot of research to make sure our videos could be informative. A assignment in particular that took me longer to do and lots of hours at home was filling out the Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How. I was able to complete it before the deadline and balanced out the homework so I could complete it on time without staying up all night.

Here is my 5 W and H:

Another project that I already talked about a bit is in my WW1 comic I set times so I could get my 27 panels done before the exhibition without stressing. I used these times and managed to get my comic done 3 days early and was able to balance put the work and my personal life.

Here is my logged things to-dos:

Opportunities For Growth

So I have talked about where I have grown so now lets talk about some success behaviours I can still grow on. A success behaviours I can continue to improve on is contributions when it comes to answering questions in class or raising my hand to ask a question or to contribute my ideas to the class. I feel comfortable contributing my ideas when I am in my group and joining in activities but I feel that I could get better at contributing my ideas in whole class discussions.

Conclusion

Overall grade 9 has been a challenging yet rewarding year where I seeked help when needed, maintained balance between homework and social, and continued to be enthusiastic towards my learning. I have learned a lot and enjoyed learning all of it. The behaviours I talked about today have prepared me for grade 10 and I am excited to continue my learning journey and keep growing. Thank you for listening to my tPOL I hope you have a great rest of your day.
