Hello blog readers,
Destination Imagination Provincials is finally over. Let me tell you all about it. If you don’t remember Regionals make sure to check out that post before you read this. This post I will reflect on the things we upgraded, tell you about our performance, and tell you about the day.
As you might already know we did not have our second team choice element. Before spring break we got to work and started to make our second team choice element. Kailey, Luca, and I decided to make drums. We decided to play the drums for a short amount of time to show our insight into music. This also was going to up our score in the creative producing of sound methods, which is where we fell behind in regional. After we made the drums, we added it into our script. Since we added the drums being planned we had to shorten some dialogue in our script. Then Daniel also made a rock so we can use as a prop.
Friday, the day before Destination imagination tournament. We were all worried about our sets and props getting to the school in surrey safely. Lucky for my group my dad has big vans for his work. I got my dad to come to school after school on Friday and we filled the van with our backdrops and props. Another group in my class called the droplets needed a van to transport there set so we also got there stuff in my van. After everything was in the van and my dad drove away the worry of our set not getting there safely was gone and all we had to do that day was go do one more run through.
Without even noticing Monday morning was upon us. I grabbed my suitcase for the Ottawa trip and the bag of snacks, and my dad and I were out the door into the van that had our set. If you did not know I’m always the holder of snacks. Every single DI performance I’ve always bring the Tim Horton’s timbits and all the superstore snacks I know everyone loves. We start driving to the school in Surrey. The schools name is Johnston’s heights. Soon enough we made it to the school and shortly after my group got there and we unloaded the van.
You’ll probably already know how the day goes so I’ll just give you a small run trough. We start by unloading our stuff, the we have our parade in with signs, then we watch other people perform, do our main challenge in front of friends and family, do our top secret instant challenge, and usually we would have to wait for the award ceremony but this time we had to go.
After our instant challenge was done our parents picked us up and took us to the airport cause we had to go to Ottawa for a school field study but I will tell you about that in my next blog post.
Overall this year destination imagination has been a crazy rollercoaster but it’s over for us because we aren’t going to globals. I feel like we produced good work and we tried hard, sadly we got fourth place and because of that I had to contemplate if it was worth it to do all this work and get nothing. At first I was disappointed I felt like it was my fault that we didn’t do better. I spent so much time working on the script, backdrops, team choice elements but I didn’t put my foot forward and mange the team, nether did anyone else. I feel like we should have rehearsed our performance a lot more because in some ways we were not ready. We did not think that the everyone who went to provincials had this extra level of practice. Obviously this time around we could have done better and I know we could improve a lot but now it’s time for you to read my Ottawa blogpost.
