What I Geek Out About!

“Soccer” Why it matters to me.

There are not enough words in the English language to describe how much I love and adore soccer, but I’ll try to explain how the journey began and why I love it.

It all started when I was growing up, my father was a huge fan of soccer and would always watch games with me on the TV. Soccer was something we bonded over because no one else in the family cared about it as much as my dad and I did. Our favourite player was Maradona, not just because he was one of the greatest players at that time, it was because of his famous move the “Maradona.” My father taught me that move over and over again, so with all that influence growing up when I turned six I joined the Tim’s Soccer Club, and that’s the beginning of my life in soccer.

As I got older I continued to play soccer and I practiced a ton to improve my skills. Over time I got new opportunities to join better teams, and with that I worked my way up; mainly I’m just really cool and every team wanted me. Over the years I was keen on being a directly on the field as a “center mid,” but then on one of my teams we needed a new goal keeper so I volunteered. At first the new position was a big change and it was very difficult but I wanted to try something different so I stayed with it. Over and over I kept practicing and I got better and that showed; I’m literally the best and if you don’t agree with that then you got problems.

Now for my current team I play goalie and I’m comfortable and happy with the position. I grew into it and now it’s my favourite position to play on the field, and my team supports that. I absolutely love being a goal keeper and that has opened new opportunities for me because many higher up teams need keepers. It great to try something new because for me I ended loving the change, which made me love soccer even more. Also if you for some reason you couldn’t understand all that then too bad, try again it’s not that hard.

How to do a Maradona:

Directions:

1. Have a ball in front of you with a bit of space between your foot and the ball.

2. Put the bottom of your foot on top of the ball.

3. Use the bottom of your foot to gently roll the ball to your back foot.

4. Receive the ball with your back foot and then turn counter-clockwise with the ball.

5. Turn until you’re facing the way the same way you were before.

6. And once back facing the same way you before, you’re done.

Compare and Contrast
Goalie-Player
A goalie and a player are different in many ways such as their positions on the field and the rules they must follow, so here are the basics:
-As for a goalie only you can touch the ball with your hands and also only within the 16 yard box or else if you go out then you can only use your feet.
-As a player you are not allowed to touch the ball, unless under certain situations such as protecting doing a “throw in,” which is a part of the game.
-A goalies job is to guard the goal while the players do the rest
Overall a goalie and a player are different in many ways but also quite similar because they both have similar skills. For example when a player shoots a long ball into the goal, a goalie does something similar when they shoot the ball up the field. There are strengths in both the players and their positions are just as hard as each others.

Geek Out Reflection

The blogging process was quite a journey. At first knowing what I wanted to write about was easy but then really thinking about it and investing my knowledge into it was the difficult part. Trying to share what I loved and details about my topic was hard because I wanted to make sure my writing told a story.

This was different than what I’ve done before on my blog because this post was all about one of my main interests, something I appreciated, cared about and dedicated my time to. While writing I felt like a I was writing for an audience that either wanted to learn about soccer or that had some sort of connection to the sport, so due to that it influence my writing in wanting it to project the feeling I had towards soccer.

During the period of writing there were many pro’s and con’s, some of the pro’s were creating the visuals for this writing because I got to draw them all by myself and use my skills to make them. Some of the con’s were adjusting the writing and shortening it so it was readable, but it was unfortunate because I wasn’t able to add in the details into my writing.

From this experience I learned a lot about myself such as my journey into soccer and all the effort I put into it to get better, and I also learned how much soccer has helped me throughout the years I’ve played. Soccer became something I looked forward to everyday, as well as I looked forward to seeing my friends on my team.

Overall I did enjoy creating this page because I got to write something completely with my own words, ideas and feelings. I got to choose the format and all the details and information included within it. Especially I enjoyed adding in visuals to really give the audience a representation of my topic.

Lastly, I’ll try to keep in touch with my blog and update it when I can or if I get a new idea.
