Its the End of the World

The End of the World

You slowly come to, under the dull glow of the street lights, as they flicker in the darkness. For a couple of blissful seconds, you lie still, thinking you are in bed. Then, a wave painful memories washes over, taking you out of your peaceful euphoria.

The assignment

For this assignment, I had to write a song about my worldview and how a text can help me understand myself while my worldview is changing. The song had to based off of Its the End of the World (by REM). I had to write the song individually, then rewrite the lyrics with my group. I think that the lyrics I wrote by myself are better than the ones that I made as a group. We entitled our song “It’s The Start of the Year as We Know it”. Then, we had to sing and record the song. Finally, we had to create a music video to go along with the song. My group consisted of me, Sven, and Carmyn. I think that we did the best job we could, but I can’t honestly say that I love the end result.

If you want to read the lyrics I made myself, they are at the bottom of this post!

If you want to see my video, here it is!

Its the start of the Year as We Know it!

With my video, I feel like my group and I did the best we could. It could have been better, but I really think that we all tired to make it as good as possible, and I worked really hard to write, record, and sing my song.

The outsiders

To help us understand what worldview is, we read The Outsider’s. For The Outsiders, we had to complete four role sheets. We had to complete a Venn diagram. We had to take notes on the the book, and define any words we didn’t know. Here are my role sheets.

Worldview

Worldview is vital to how you see the world and how you perceive events and reflect on experiences. I did a lot of work to help understand my worldview, and how that impacts my life. I categorize things that shape or change your worldview into eight sections. They are: time, value, belief, religion, geography, economy, knowledge, and society.  Here is a MindNode that I made to showcase seven of the main categories.

Questioning and Processing

Questioning and processing were our two competencies for this project. For questioning, we had to: reflect on any incorrect answers, make predictions about the book, connect all the assignments to worldview, highlight information, make notes about worldview, use said notes to create a song, and then know when to revise and when to be done.

For processing, we had to take notes, reflect on our work, and consider values and beliefs while thinking about worldview.

Reflecting on my Worldview

Part of this project, is that to complete this task necessary, I have to reflect on my own worldview. A big part of that, is how past experiences have changed my current worldview. This is important, because experiences can really shape your worldview.

The End

Or at least it is for me, because just a few short months ago, I was finishing the last few days of the eight full years that I had gone to elementary school. Eight years is a pretty long time. Eight years:

-is the time it takes for a beam of uninterrupted light to travel 75.7 trillion kilometres

-is enough time for you to watch the entire Harry Potter series 3504 times and while you are watching the Harry Potter series, you would breath in approximately 125,567,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (125 nonillion) atoms of oxygen

-is 252,288,000 seconds

As sad as I am to be done elementary school, this ending is a new beginning, too.

The Start

On the other hand, this is also the start of something new. I have started a new school, done way too much homework, and made this blog. I have even made a YouTube channel, which you can check out here. These few months have been stressful, emotionally draining, and at times even exhausting. Even so, these last couple months have been the hardest, best, and most rewarding months of my entire life.

So yes, this is the end of an era in my life. Yes, school and PLP can be hard. But I chose to focus on the beginnings rather then the endings. I choose to look on the bright side. This is the start of five years of secondary school. Five years is about 1/18 of my life, and I get to decide how to spend it.

How can a Text Help me Understand Myself as my Worldview is Changing?

The driving question for this project was, “How can a text help me understand myself as my worldview is changing”.  When I heard that, at first it just sounded like a bunch of meaningless words on a page. As I did this project, I realized what that meant. It means that as your worldview changes, you change as a person as well, and because text can influence your worldview, text can be crucial to understanding your own worldview and how that impacts your life. When I read the Outsiders, I learned more about what it would be like to have a similar outlook as shown in the outsiders.

My lyrics

That’s great, it starts with a grading change.
From letters, to proficiencies.
The ministry approves the change.
Information overload
Working from home, self isolating
Pandemic, epidemic, systemic problematic
Anti science propaganda
With the vitriolic breathing down your neck
The James Webb, new king, inflation, global warming
Look at star link flying overhead,
Uh oh, climate change, population overflow
The rich save themself, and serve theirselves
Barbie makes a billion, listen to the news (yeah)
Tell me in this vitriolic, egotistic, capitalist;
In this democratic, corrupt, society,
What is just?
My worldview is constantly changing
My worldview is constantly changing
My worldview is constantly changing, but that’s just fine.
It’s always rush hour, in our world money is power,
Slash and burn, destruction, listen to opinions churn
Lock them up when they disagree,
‘cause there ain’t no other place for them to be
Invent a front, invent a scam, blame anyone but us
What you got to do to get some recognition,
This means no fear, it’s a frontier, just running clear of the truth
Offer them solutions, offer them alternatives, because they won’t decline.
My worldview is constantly changing (I am more independent)
My worldview is constantly changing (I am more independent)
My worldview is constantly changing, but that’s just fine. (I am more independent)
That’s just fine
My worldview is constantly changing (I am more independent)
My worldview is constantly changing (I am more independent)
My worldview is constantly changing, but that’s just fine. (I am more independent)
The other day we drifted into a climate crisis
Record fire season and all of us could die
Great big hurricane, droughts and mass extinction
How can we find the answer when some can’t even acknowledge the problem?
The parasitic, patriotic, culture, right, right
My worldview is constantly changing (I have more independence)
My worldview is constantly changing (I am more independent)
My worldview is constantly changing, but that’s just fine. (I am more independent)My worldview is constantly changing
My worldview is constantly changing
My worldview is constantly changing (I have more independence)
My worldview is constantly changing (I am more independent)
My worldview is constantly changing, but that’s just fine. (I am more independent)
My worldview is constantly changing
My worldview is constantly changing
My worldview is constantly changing, but that’s just fine. (I am more independent)
My worldview is constantly changing (I am more independent)
My worldview is constantly changing (I am more independent)
My worldview is constantly changing, but that’s just fine. (I am more independent)
