Welcome to my last blog post ever! For the past couple of weeks, we have been working on creating a comic book about a bacteria or virus. I chose to do mine about salmonella. The driving question for this project was “How do cells and diseases interact”.
at the beginning of this project, we were asked to create a wanted post about the disease we chose. This is mine.
I included detail of the description of salmonella, the death count, and the origin. There is also a description of the symptoms of salmonella.
After making this, we started working on our comic books. After going through many ideas and creating story boards, I finished my final comic. This comic is a bout a guy named Greg who goes to a restaurant and accidentally ate raw chicken. He got salmonella and the book explains how Greg’s body fights the virus.
Mind Map
At the beginning of this project, like every other, we were asked to create a mind map of any questions or information we already had.
As you can see, I did not know a lot about the topic of this project, but, I think over this project I was able to learn a lot more.
Core Competencies
Questioning and predicting: Demonstrate a sustained curiosity about a scientific topic or problem of personal interest. I think that over this project, all of my class time was used efficiently. I think that I could have been better at asking questions and getting more into the project. I feel like I wasn’t as engaged in this project as I have been in others and that shows in my grade.
Scientific communication: communicate ideas, findings, and solutions to problems using scientific language, representations, and digital technologies. In my project, I was able to use correct vocabulary but I think my project could have incorporated more vocabulary words. I found that while researching, it was very hard to understand what the articles were talking about. Everything sounded very complicated and my brain couldn’t comprehend what was happening. Overall, I think I did a pretty average job in this area.
Evaluating: Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of evidence. I think my characters interacted in a scientific way but I think I should have shown how cells interact more. I think I could’ve gone into a lot more detail about that. I think I did a good job at showing the symptoms in my comic.
After this project, I think I learned a lot about how I could improve next time I do something like this. I think that if I was more engaged in this project, I could have done way better. Even if I wasn’t 100% proud of the outcome, thats okay because everything can be used as a learning experience still.
