I might be the best writer in the world. The key word there is “might”. Our project for Humanities recently has been focusing on Frankenstuffies. The end product for our project is a video about a story our Frankenstuffie goes through. Our Driving Question was “How do we write something so that people will understand our meaning?”.

Making Sam

Sewing is something that I hadn’t done in a  long time. The very first thing we made for this project was our Frankenstuffies. Sam, my Frankenstuffie, was a combination of a panda, llama, and owl. I started off with connecting the arms of a panda to the body if a llama. Then came the ears which were is arms before. The final thing I connected was owl wings on the back.

Understanding the Driving Question

Our main focus with the Driving Question is writing a story that tells a story with meaning. The audience also needs to understand the story too. The best way to check if the audience understands a story is to ask them questions that require a decent understanding of the story. To do that I made a Padlet were the audience can make their own theme statements and ask any other questions or say any ideas they have.

My Video

The biggest part of the project wasn’t the process of making my Frankenstuffie, but making the video was. The Frankenstuffie is more of a prop than a project. To start off the video we had to craft a character identity. That was definitely the most fun out of all the steps. Once we had that, we moved on to a full story of your Frankenstuffie. We weren’t able to make the full story so we took our favourite part and built upon it until it eventually became it’s own story.

What did I learn?

This was a very storytelling focused project. It started with us reading Leviathan to get a better understanding on how stories are written. I then had to craft my characters personality which was not only fun, but also taught me some things. Having the same character for the whole project meant that I had to make a good character that would fit into my story very well. Then I had to make the story, which meant writing. Once I had written the story I did filming and editing for my short film. The big takeaways were story writing, and crafting a story into visual media.
