1848, the year Europe was on Fire. I have just finished my Humanities project and it was all about Nationalism. It was also the most general project I have done so far.
What was the project?
Europe was experiencing a historic amount of nationalism around 1848. This was the main focus of this project. Our finished project was an informational video about a countries nationalism. My country was Poland, and it had many different difficulties.
How did I make it, and what were some difficulties?
A big difficulty with Polish nationalism is how long it spanned and how it succeeded. The period around 1848 didn’t see much success with the most being just a town. Poland gained full independence after WW1, but then lost it in WW2, and regained it after the Cold War. Having such a large period of nationalism made it much more difficult to mainly focus on the 1848 time period.
What did I learn?
I have made lots of videos in PLP now but this was one of the more informational. I used lots of different ways to share information with media being shown with a voice over. A new thing that was very useful was using stock footage for different parts of the video like the intro. It made the video more engaging and better portrayed the point I was trying to make.
What will I do differently next time?
Next time I do a project like this with an informational video, there are a few different things I would want to do. Making some animations myself can give more understanding and engagement to the viewer. At certain points of my video I either really quickly skipped over a topic or didn’t focus on it enough, so better pacing would help a lot too.
