We sent a flag around the world. Our big project for Humanities has been on WW2. It included lots of different things but mainly revolved around writing. It was a pretty cool project in the sense that we were researching interesting topics, like the different theatres of war, and what it was like in Canada during the time. Our big driving question was “What role did the conflict of WWII play in shaping Canadian identity?”

WWII was the start of a new geopolitical world, but it was also the start of a new Canada. We became a larger international presence, and moved away from us just being Britain’s old colony. WWII helped shape Canada into the independent country it is today.

Our final essay was our big writing part, but our Act of Service was more focused on how we thought about going to war, and what it was like, then the writing side. It consisted of us going our into the community and doing an act of service. We also documented what we did and what an act of service was to us.

Our essay included lots of different steps like, thesis statements, and lots of rounds of critique. This has probably been the most in depth dives we’ve had into citing sources while writing, and proper format for an essay.

It was a fun project and I think I learned a lot about writing, but more importantly I learnt a lot about formats. I can now write essays that follow that format.
