Driving question: How does advertising persuade, sell, and influence society?
Nikan-Dan back on the old blog!
The spring exhibition has come and gone, and that means its blog post time.
The 8s task was to create an ad for a business we visited during the course of our time in Oregon. My group was tasked with Clark’s Restaurant, in Cosmopolis, Washington. My ad went through many iterations, until finally, I got it.
My ad was extremely different from my group members ads, that’s for specific reason.
My first 3 drafts were just like my peers- green, burger, done. After my 3rd draft, however, Ms. Willemse gave me some critiques that I wasn’t able to implement. I was trying everything, but nothing worked. What does a hockey team do in this situation? They blow everything up, fire the management, and start from scratch. That’s what I did. Unfortunately, I had nobody to fire, but I completely restarted my drafts, and went for a risk. I decided to go full experimental, so I tried out an Andy Warhol-esque design. I quite like my ad, and luckily, the exhibition-goers did too.
Things that went well: The teamwork displayed during the exhibition was fantastic. If one person in any of the groups slacked-off, I don’t think this exhibition would’ve had anything going for it. Our setup was also flawlessly fast, much faster than in the winter. The chipotle dinner was phenomenal too.
Could’ve gone better: Cleanup. I kept going around to pick up garbage, then seeing a piece of garbage sitting right next to a bunch of my classmates. I was convinced they were blind. Another thing was I didn’t really like how we were setup, in terms of layout. I think if our groups had been spread more out, people would’ve felt more drawn to come talk to you. I don’t think anyone went group-to-group, talking to every single darn person.
Answer to driving question: Advertisements influence society by using persuasive words, ideas, images etc. to swing a consumer one way, usually being to buy a product.
Successful exhibition, a good time was had by all, and excited for future ones.
