30: Marketing Me (and YOU!) ☃️

How’s it going fellas, Nikan here.

The Winter Exhibition came and went on December 19th, 2024, and was met with positive reception, as per usual with PLP.

Can you guess the project for PLP 10? Not humanities. Not maker either. That’s right, our first ever careers exhibition project!

The project was called “Marketing Me!”, and it was all about making ourselves look good to future employers. We started the project by learning about ourselves. Our values, our hobbies, what we stand for, y’know. Then, we turned our focus to crafting our own personal logo. I had a ton of fun creating my logo, mostly, you know if you follow my blog, because I LOVE canva. We discussed what makes a logo work, what doesn’t, and everything in between. We decided good logos are simple, scalable, memorable, and relevant. I began tinkering away at my logo. After a while, I had come up with my logo. I wanted my logo to be clean, simple, yet fun to look at. Here ya go:

After, we turned our attention to business cards. They business cards were SO MUCH fun to make, but at the same time, a little stressful. Everything in our business card had to be intentional. We learnt about colour meanings, font, spacing, everything, everything had to relate to us. It had to be personal, creative, and visually appealing. Here’s mine:

Finally, our resumes. Finally, I had met my match. In theory, I should’ve loved making my resume, and for the most part, I did. My problem was that I over-obsessed over it. No matter how many times I’d change my layout, colours, fonts, etc., I didn’t like it. I also wasn’t a big fan of the criteria we were supposed to work around, but the teachers know better than I do, so best to just do what they say. Our resumes were supposed to be simple, easy to read, and fun to look at. Here are a couple of my early drafts, and my final one:

Finally, the day of the exhibition rolled around.

Luckily, everybody got fantastic reception from the exhibition-goers! Although I didn’t get any contact info via the exhibition, I got lots of kind words and encouragement, Charlie’s Grandma took 2 of my business cards, I’ve never felt prouder! It doesn’t get better than that.

All in all, my 5th PLP exhibition was a complete success, a fun project, and looking forward to Spring!
