In the Name of Nationalism

“How did Mahatma Ghandi, England, and 1910 British Columbia lead to a rocket on the moon?” -me, April 30th, approx. 8:30 P.M.

This PLP project we learnt why people kill each other, kinda. We learnt about nationalism in the context of war and uprising. Specifically I focused on Indian nationalism. Seeing how this is a precursor to a WWI project, we are looking at Indian nationalism from the period of about 1850-1913. Now that we have the topic, we had to actually learn about what went on during that period. To do that, we made 5 questions using the QFT system which is a system where you create thoughtful questions about the topic, then answer, using who, what, when, where, why, and how. My question are: who was important in Indian nationalism? What was the “turning point” of Indian nationalism? Where did the most pre-WWI nationalist events take place? When is the most important time of pre-WWI Indian nationalism? Why was someone trying to stop Indian nationalism? How does a difference of religion display different ideals in Indian nationalism?

If you want the answer to each of these questions, check out my youtube video here

Now that you know what I did, let’s talk about how I did.

I was relatively happy with this project, both with my answering of my questions and scriptwriting for the video. Something I wasn’t super happy about was the filming of the video. Due to some external circumstances, I had to record everything in one night, which isn’t that bad, but the problem was I had to do it from about 8:30-9:30, which lead to me not having any emotion, and editing the script on the fly because the jokes that I did write in weren’t good because of the aforementioned lack of emotion.

Now to round off the reflection, let’s talk about some stuff that I found interesting. The biggest one being something that I mentioned in the video, so spoiler alert. As you can probably guess, something I found interesting was the India houses and specifically that there was one in B.C. Another part that I find interesting about that is we don’t know this information because the people in the India house were documenting it, it was due to surveillance of Indians during this period (1907).

Thanks for reading, have a good rest of your day!
