Hi! My name is Rhadan and I’m sure you know me for better or worse. Today I will be sharing my mpol with you. Mpols driving questions are how have I displayed growth as a learner and how can I sharpen my learning plan to ensure I will reach my learning targets by the end of the school year. Regarding these questions I believe that I have displayed growth in firstly my use with technology and shortcuts, even the little things have helped me navigate throughout technology such as with my iPad and it has made my experience with technology much better. For our maker 8 class we had the main topic of the end of our semester to be based around the movie avatar. Avatar was a movie that was not only great because of when it was released, it also has many examples of actions or things that are still done to this day. For example, corporate greed. In avatar they try to take what isn’t theirs because it will provide them wealth and fame. You can link that to the real world in so many different ways, for example to tie in with the crusades the pope was more than willing to sacrifice everyone around him for more power and wealth.

For our maker 8 class we had the main topic of the end of our semester to be based around the movie avatar. In class to prepare for our winter exhibition (more on that later) we got to watch the old avatar movie and we rented out the theatre to watch the new one! Then for our winter exhibition (which is where people view your project.) we made a presentation for the public with our avatar themed boxes which was basically a representation of a theme like mentioned earlier, corporate greed, militarism, racism and more. My box was on the scene where the military burnt down the avatars home for a mineral and we had all kinds of cooool stuff like jello and ice tea for our guests. It was fun and in the end we learned a lot about communication outside of our comfort zone by talking to strangers. It was a struggle at first but later the work eased up and I became more comfortable. In the end it was a fun experience I got to share with friends.                                        

In humanities 8 we learned about the crusades, which was the war between the Islams and the Christian’s. We also talked about the feudal system which was the order of power and the guideline in the Middle Ages. At that point and time I believe nothing was fair unless you were born into royalty like the king or worked for the church. No matter how much you worked if you were a peasant there was a 99 percent chance your life would stay that way.

When did humanity move forward and why. I believe that a lot of ideas stemmed by trade as spices brought new flavour to Europe and European traders would trade guns, rum, salt, and others. Also around two million years ago it is thought the first of technology was invented. The first ever example of technology was stone tools and then more recently in 1910 many suburban homes had been wired up with power and new electric gadgets that were being patented with fervour. 

How did the quest for power affect peoples lives in the Middle Ages. Well, for one that was how the crusades started, for the city of Jerusalem and for the other holy lands. What went on in the crusades? There were great triumphs and great defeats depending on what side you were seated on. My favourite to talk about is the children’s crusade. The children’s crusade was an effort to win with peace and love and basically saying we can do this is an easier way. The children were very ruthlessly killed by drowning or made to be slaves for the islams. So in this case love and kindness was shot down as soon as it came up. Why did the pope believe after slaughtering so many people from the islams they would consider giving any holy land to the pope. 

In general i really like how I I have been developing through the course of the performance learning program and look forward to getting the full PLP experience with my fellow students and piers. Thank you for listening to my presentation.
