World War Two was the biggest war ever, so how did it effect us? With the New Year of 2025 comes the wrap up of my latest Humanities project, Save Juno Beach. Over the course of  the project, I completed an act of service, a smart brevity note, a essay in MLA format, and the class made a zine. I chose to specifically focus on the manufacturing side of things, and how manufacturing effected Canada in relation to WW2. For my act of service I chose to take part in a beach clean up in cates park, cleaning up our community and oceans.

The driving question for this project was; What role did the conflict of WWII play in shaping Canadian identity? In the simplest terms possible, Big war equals change in economy, lives lost, a militarism mindset, and uncertainty, all of which leads to change in Canadian identity. I went into more detail in my essay, especially the change in manufacturing and how it effected our economy, which in turn effects our identity.

My essay/zine is some of my best work. I like how I chose to focus on a somewhat narrow topic not that many other people were doing, because in meant I could really go into detail about it, instead of skimming over multiple topics at once. It’s also one of my longest pieces of work, and while long doesn’t mean good, I think my essay is long and good!

If I had to choose one part of the project to do again, it would be my act of service. While I helped clean up the community, I think I could have made my own act of service more unique instead of just signing up for a beach clean up that would have made the same difference with or without my contribution.

Overall, this project went really well. I feel proud of my work and the amount of effort put into it, which seems to be happening more this year! I look to carry this strong momentum through to the next project.
