How would you present yourself to a potential employer? What type of person are you? What are your strengths and weaknesses? And what are your aspirations? I answered all of those questions and more in my latest maker project, Marketing Me. I completed a booth at a mock job fair, displaying my resume, business card, and three design elements. The mock job fair was part of the winter exhibition for the grade tens this year so during this blog post I will also reflect on my conversations with parents and visitors.
How might I present my passions, strengths, and learning to the world? I honestly had a bit of trouble answering this driving question, there is just so many different ways to answer it that it almost becomes overwhelming. Of course taking part in the job fair with each of my design elements is a way to present myself, but how I could present me in the most true way possible is what’s hard. I normally think I have a good self awareness but this question made me question that slightly. It’s hard to point at a few things and say they represent me because if someone looked at the design elements but didn’t know me personally I don’t think they would have a much better understanding of who I am other than knowing my hobbies and aspirations.
My greatest accomplishment this project was my consistency. Every part of this project, the resume, business card, and booth were all completed to a level of depth I am happy with. While not all components blend together, I think that shows more of who I am rather than focusing on just one part of my life in detail. The end result was a booth at the exhibition presenting multiple different paths I could go down as professions. In my booth I focused on starting a business and which ones i could start. I chose landscaping, ski gear making, hiking safety equipment and teaching, and running a food truck as my possible career paths.
Thanks for taking a Quick Look into my reflection! I know it was short but I think the work displayed above will tell you about my project more than a thousand words could. Overall I am very happy with the end result of this project, and who knows there’s a chance I go into one of these fields and look back on my grade ten winter exhibition.
