How can we use the power of written text to inspire the new PLP 8 learners?

Introduction:

How does one formulate a sentence? That is a good question which I attempted to answer during this project. In this project our final product was a piece of text to the grade 8s. This text was suppose to be advice on how to high-school to the grade 8s. I personally, found this project to be quite difficult since I am very much not the best writer. However, I was excited for this project since I thought it would be an opportunity to improve my writing skills.

Writing Journal:

The writing journal helped me to improve my writing skills and my ability to formulate an academic paragraph. For the writing journal we mainly focused on making an academic paragraph and learning some grammar rules. This was useful for me since I don’t really know any grammar rules since as a child my teachers were much more focus on making sure I spoke correctly and fluently rather than writing well. Thus when I am checking for mistakes I base it around if it feels right to for me to say it. However, this causes a lot of my writing especially, academic to have a great deal of spelling errors and poorly phrased sentences.

The writing rules or exercises that we did really helped me to improve my writing for the academic paragraph. Moreover, I hope that we do more of these writing exercises since it’ll help me to improve my English for the future.

The academic paragraph was surprisingly quite enjoyable to write. The question that we had to answer was “Why PLP is a good choice for students?”. My topic for this paragraph was feedback in PLP and the benefits of said feedback. While researching for my paragraph, one cool thing I realized was that the PLP teacher probably used the books about feedback that I was reading. I thinks this because many of the points in the book about correctly done feedback is implemented heavily in PLP. One of the biggest takeaways from this paragraph was just how important feedback is for creating quality work and the writing quality is more important than the quantity of writing.

A sense of the Mission:

For this part of the project we were meant to gain more insight on the grade 8 experience by taking with grade 8s. We all just went around a circle and basically took turns asking grade 8s questions. It defiantly helped me to understand more of the grade 8 perspective. However, I found that half of them were very talkative and the other half didn’t talk very much. Overall, I found this experience gave me some insight on the average grade 8’s though process.

Letter to a grade 8:

Creating the final letter to grade 8 was much easier than I expected. This could be due to how it was suppose to be a casual tone in writing rather than an academic writing piece. At first I had trouble making my letter be more casual and use less complicated words. However, as I made my revision I slowly created a letter which was more engaging and easy to understand. In general, I am very happy with the final product of my letter.

Moreover, the feedback I received about my letter was overall positive. The grade 8 said that it was very engaging and easy to understand which was my goal in for the final product. They also said that they learned about the importance of feedback and that they couldn’t connect to the piece yet since they had not been in grade 8 for very long. Overall, I think this project helped me to understand different tones in writing.

Conclusion:

This project taught helped me get one step closer into becoming an accomplished writer. It also helped me better understand different tones in writing and how to plan for a well-written piece. Overall, I hope that my piece of writing will inspire the future generations of PLPers.
