My mPOL!!!

The POL Declaration

“Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.”

What I Have Demonstrated a Great Understanding In ✅:

I did a vey good job of understanding and making the scratch game in Science in which we coded games around atoms and the periodic table to make a fun game! I am also very proud of the blog posts that I have spent lots of time writing and I like how I can have my own place where I can share my thoughts and work with the world! The last main thing that I’m proud of is the winter exhibition because I did a good job of speaking to an audience and I projected my voice well when talking. I also did a good job of making props and working with my group even though it was difficult and hard, I learnt a lot from it and I now know much more about presenting because of it. The proudest thing I’ve made though, is my About Me video and my poem book, which I had to revise and look at and fix so many times, but when I finally finished it, I was very proud because I put in a lot of work and got a good mark because of it.

What I Need to Work on 🔁:

I need to work on including everyone’s ideas in a project because I sometimes don’t always listen to others ideas and try to stick with my own. I will try to work on this by listening to my group members and including them and their opinions and thoughts. A project that I think I could’ve done better on was the Bon Voyage project. I didn’t put very much effort into the final project and the blog post also lacked effort . An area that is related to this that I can work on is putting effort into projects. I can work on this by taking time out of my free theme which I mostly use to hang out with friends, play sports, and video games, to be more productive in my work so I can improve my grade.

Strategies and Habits That I Will Work On 🧠:

– Setting reminders on my iPad and Phone to help keep track of assignments and due dates.

– Getting in the habit of coming into tutorials to get ahead or catch up on an assignment.

– Getting into the habit of extending my work so I can get a better mark.

– I can use the app “Things” to set reminders as you can make a widget on your Home Screen so you can see it easily.

– Get into the habit of checking over my work and reading instructions carefully to make sure I did the assignment correctly.

My Learning Plan 💭

We Made learning plans at the beginning of the year that talked about things we needed to work on in different categories of learning such as agency, engagement, conduct, ethics and integrity, preparation, self regulation, communication and collaboration. We also wrote a statement of learning intent.

Statement of Learning Intent:

By the end of the school year I want to know how to manage a project and how to work with peers better. I want to learn how to do this because in the future when I get a job, I want to know how to corporate with peers and co-workers. Another skill I want to take away from PLP this year is a strong understanding of the expectations in PLP. I want to know this because I will be spending five years of my life learning and growing in that environment. I also want to gain an understanding of how a real working environment works. I want to know this because I want to be prepared for post secondary education. I will learn these things by talking to my group members in projects, asking creative questions, trying to be a proficient learner in all areas of PLP, and talking to my teachers while getting to know their learning style and personalities better.

How have I demonstrated growth as a learner so far this year? 🏎️

In my learning plan I talked about trying to ask creative questions and trying to help lead groups in discussions and presentations. I have asked more creative questions that demonstrate my understanding of learning and I have contributed to group discussions way more. I demonstrated growth in both my blog posts and my scratch game, at the beginning of the year, my blog posts were boring and they had nothing exciting in them. Now, I have listened (or tried to at least) to my teachers on how to make my blog posts better and more engaging to an audience. And for my scratch game, I had lots of trouble with it when we first started so I played around with it by myself and I eventually got it and created something that I’m proud of. At the beginning of the year, I wouldn’t have been able to do that without asking for help from a teacher. So that shows that I’ve demonstrated growth in many aspects of learning so far this year.

How can I sharpen my Learning Plan to ensure I will reach my learning targets by the end of this school year? 🏎️

I can help sharpen my Learning Plan by setting reminders and working on each goal one at a time to help concentrate on it and finish it fast, but also with care and motivation. I can also rewrite some of the statements so they are less vague and I can easily understand what needs to be done and completed. Like in the project: Bon Voyage, I may have gotten a proficient on it, but I think if I sharpen my learning targets then I can maybe try to aim for a more extending mark in the future.

So… What Have I Learnt Since the Beginning of  the Year? 🤔

I have learnt how to manage my time to do school work and to focus on class discussions and activities. I’ve learnt more about colonisation and the crusades. I’ve learnt how to find my priorities and do the harder this first instead of just brushing them under the rug. I’ve learnt how to work in groups affectively and how to include others in group discussions. We learnt how to use apps such as Things, Craft, Pages, Showbie, Basecamp, and so so much more. PLP has taught me how to be more affective as a learner and how to use worldview to discover who we are and what are views on life look like. My worldview has changed so much since starting high school, and it will continue to change as I’m exposed to new things and learning. I learnt by watching the teacher explain things and occasionally asking for help, studying, researching, and even using classmates work as inspiration.
