🏎️ How does experiencing a workday shape our view of career choices?
This was our driving question for our TYKTW project. We had to film a video of our workday and edit it so that it met this criteria: Collection of shots and editing includes the following digital enhancements: time-lapse, freeze frame, changed speed, copy-right free music, voice over, overlay photos, and the Ken Burns effect, it also had to have at least one interview. This project was very useful because it taught me about how to use iMovie to it’s fullest and it also taught me all the different jobs that are available in a municipality. But what is a municipality, what jobs are available there, what job did I shadow and why are these jobs important? Read on to find out…
TYKTW Day Video
We had to film a video that told a story about our day at work. We had to include many different camera angles and we had to include one interview. We made an action plan in pages about what we would film and what angles, effects and interviews we would capture. I filmed angles such as us driving to work, my dad typing on the keyboard, and photos with the Ken Burns effects. This part was hard because we had to be very precise and we had to capture every part of our day.

What Job did I Shadow?
For TYKTW day I was able to overview many jobs such as firefighters, accountants, engineers, and many more. My dad though, is a city planner and he showed me around his job. His day consisted of meetings, calls with his colleagues, and looking at job sites.
How my day Went
We started off the day by going to the coffee shop, then we drove to work tired, but ready for the day. My dad is a city planner so that means he designs, develops, and manages the land and infrastructure. We arrived at the office and then we went into my dads office where he had to write some emails, Then, I interviewed him on his job. Then, we went to the council chamber and he showed me around. The council chamber is important because some very important decisions are made there. This day taught me a lot about work in a municipality and how every job is necessary in order for it to function. There are so many different careers that I could choose to peruse and they’re all good options. I think that planning was interesting, but what really stood out to me was firefighting because you have the chance to give back to your community and help others.
Email About my Day
We had to write an Email to the person who’s job I shadowed. I thanked my dad for giving me the opportunity to shadow his job and learn about it. Here’s what my Email looked like:
Conclusion
In conclusion I learnt what jobs there are in a municipality and how important they are. I learnt how they all worked but also how much they helped the community. I’ll definitely consider working in a municipal government when I’m older because of today and how inspiring it was.
