Alberta Videos

Have you ever been to Alberta? I have, thats what this blog will be based on. We had 4 video we had to make. The first one I will talk about will be the silent video.

The silent video was on the location of 3 valley gap. It has a ghost town, with many maniquins that helped us with our videos. My video was based on a murder. It was called conviction, and of course you could not talk because its a silent video. We also had to over exaterate our actions to make is more understanding for the veiwers that dont know whats going on.

The next video was based on a tiktok trend of your choice. I did a not so famous one where you encorporate the sound from cocomelon “are we there yet? Not yet!” And then after it said not yet it said yes and showed a whole bunch of photos from our trip. We had to plan the locations for our tiktok so we could get the footage before we had to leave.

The third video was an at home video. We did things that inspire me. I started off by showing my bike, because I love biking and I always had. Biking inspires me because my dad tought me when I was 2. Now im better than himand teaching him! After the biking portion I showcased my scooter. Then I showed my favorite skate park, Seylynn. I love it because there is a really good bowl to jump out of. After that I showcased my tricks ive landed.

We did an investigative video where we investigated our thesis and asked strangers questions that related to our thesis. I did 3 interviews.

Those were the four videos that we did for Alberta. I really liked this project and hope we do something similar again

TPOL Blog Post

Sebastians TPOL of 2023
“Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.”

This Year has been my favorite year of school yet. I think PLP boosted my learning in ways that never happened before, like when I did something wrong in grade 7, I would not want to retry. However, when I joined PLP, I was excited to try again until I got it right. I think the way PLP gives small chunks of work at a time in the projects really works for me. I seem to be getting around 2 times the amount of work done because I don’t get overwhelmed by all of the work at once.

Recap

In the first semester, I did projects that didn’t spark much interest in me. I felt pretty bored with PLP, we had projects like, the avatar box, where you build a box based on your scene from Avatar, and the Consequences of Colonization, where you researched a lot, and we also had Blue eyed brutes in horns (Vikings research). I found all of these, not that fun. I think for next year the beginning will be fun because we will already have passed grade 8, and the beginning of grade 8 was like a test for us. But in grade 9, we already passed grade 8 so we can start doing fun projects right away.

The Bad Things about this year in PLP

I am least proud of my work in the first semester of school, which is understandable because I know more now and I am smarter. However, there is a project I dislike the most: The Outsiders Book. I disliked this one because it was really challenging for me because I’m a slow reader and we had to read it fast and take notes on it. So I fell really far behind and it got me stressed.

I found the revising part of PLP frustrating at first because I’ve never done anything like it. However, once the year went on I got more used to it and now I like it because my work is of higher quality. I also think its good to always know your first try is likely, not perfect so when I don’t get a revision I get very happy.

I feel like I failed at the avatar box project because I had the smallest box that didn’t represent much, but at the end of the project, I got a few additions to touch it up like adding some fake trees. I also think I failed at this one because I was not prepared for the exhibition.

The good things about this year

I feel like I did very well this year in things I didn’t do well last year, like being organized, chatting with people (inappropriate times) and focusing on the task at hand and working on it at appropriate times

I’ve seen in a few of my classmate’s works, they use animations to reveal words or pictures, and it brings a lot of life to their work so I want to try to do that next year. I’ve also seen a few of my classmates use Canva, however, I never really understood how Canva works, so I’m going to try to learn before grade 9. I think these are some good skills to learn

There is a skill I need to “learn” for next year. I need to learn who good people are to sit with, and not sit with people that play games all class and don’t focus. I have mostly learned this, however, we get put into random seating arrangements most days.

Experiences

One of our main projects is ad making. We went to Oregon for this to talk with our clients about how they wanted their ads developed. My ad was based on Kam Meng, the local Chinese restaurant. When me and my group mates were interviewing, we practiced, so it went smoothly. We got all the information we needed for the ad. So with that done, we enjoyed the Chinese food. Then we were moving home, it was a long drive but I watched a few movies then realized I was home.
In the end of the ad making journey, we had another exhibition; Pathways! Where we showcased our ads to the public and had them ask questions. We had to set up a stand with things related to your attraction, so we put up bamboo, piano, fortune cookies, bamboo extract (7 up), and bamboo crackers. This was definitely my favorite and best, project.

Driving Question

Why do I feel like I am ready to move on to grade 9? I feel I am ready because, since the beginning of the year, I have gotten way smarter, more mature, taller, and have learned different skills for being a grown-up.

Thank you for listening to my tPOL of 2023 I hope you enjoyed it. Now you can ask questions about my tPOL.

Oregon Coast Feild School

Hi everyone, this past week has been very cool. PLP, our school program, took us to oregon as a field school (field study). The drive was very long, 9 hours total. We took a few stops on the way. We went to Clarks Restaurant, an old school burger and milkshake restaurant. I got a burger and fries there, it was pretty good. When we hit the road again, We went to the Astoria column. The Astoria Column is a tall tower in Astoria, Oregon looking over the Columbia River. A tradition at Astoria Column is throwing little wooden gliders off the tower. Since no one in our class wanted to buy them, you can look for ones people threw off the building and get them for free. So we did that and then kept on moving down the road. We then went to our first stopping place, KOA (“Kampground” of America). However before we got there, our bus broke down! Luckily we were only about 5 minuets away so we got towed to the KOA. Then we all went to sleep.

The next day came, and we walked to Fort Stevens. Fort stevens was the only fort in the USA to ever get attacked. Today we were going zip lining however we had no bus! So one of my teachers put out on Facebook if anyone had spare cars, and the owner of the local Ford dealership showed up in a limousine! So we all took the limousine to the zip lining. One we were there, we stared. I was super scared because I had never zip lined in my life, I was super scared until I got on. Then I realized it was awesome! We went through all the zip lines, then the last one was over water, and you could get the “super soak” which is where you get dunked all the way under the water. You also had the option of water skiing on your heels or you could do finger drag on the water. I did the finger drag because I only had one pair of shoes. Once we left the zip-lining.

We spent some of the next day at the Columbia River Maritime Museum, where you could see the old days of shipping things and cool interactions of tugboats and things like that. After that we went for my favourite lunch, Pig N’ Pancake. It was a awesome place for breakfast and lunches, I ordered their Chicken burger, however I wish I ordered the Chicken Nuggets because 2 of my friends ordered them and they looked so good. However I still loved my chicken burger. After everyones stomaches were stuffed, we went to cannon beach. The home of Haystack rock, which you may have heard of. Its the 3rd largest bird breeding rock! We weren’t there for the rock though, we were there for the tide pools. We saw some mini catfish, some giant green anemone, (I’ve never seen one before) and my favourite of all, but not in the tide pools were: Puffins! Ive always wanted to see one and on that day I did through the help of someones telescope pointed to the rock! Then we went for another drive over to Tillamook Creamery, the home of cheese (and ice cream and yogurt) but mostly cheese. When we first went in this place was massive, so we walked over to the place where they make the cheese. We all learned that cheese weighs 40 pounds!!! We were all so shocked my this, that we watched a video on the ice cream making here, and it was incredible. Once we were all done watching, we went to taste test the cheese, my favourite was Colby Jack. So we once again hit the road. Once we got to the yurts again we had some dinner and then went for a walk at the beach at night and we saw the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, A lighthouse that has been lighting for 150 years! However once we got back every went to sleep because we had a big day tomorrow.

We went whale watching! When we first hit the water we put crab traps in, and I got to put it in the water, but before that we had to kiss the fish for good luck. After 2 traps were set, we went to cross the bar into the ocean, we didn’t see any whales, but loads of pelicans following the boat. Once we came back we picked up the crab traps and mine unfortunately didn’t catch any crabs. However my friends caught 2 crabs. The guide taught us how to hold a crabs. It was really cool. We then went by at least 20 sea lions sun bathing on rocks, and I love sea lions so I was really excited. Once we left we went for lunch. Then we went digging for ghost shrimp for research because after we measured them because they are going extinct and we were helping this guy do his research. Then we spent the rest of the day at the yurts.

The next day we went back to the ghost shrimp digging site because we made ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) and used them in small pools. Then we left we went for lunch. Then we went to Yaquina Head Tide Pool beach. And we saw some seals with babies and we saw an octopus and a whale. This was my favorite tide pool stop of the trip. It was super cool! Then we went for a short drive to dinner, Kam Meng. The Group I have asked questions about because this entire trip led up to this for me (everyone had different places they interviewed.) When I and my group mates were interviewing, we practiced, so it went smoothly. We got all the information we needed for the ad. After we enjoyed the Chinese food, we went back to the yurts.

Today we went to Bullwinkle’s, an amusement park! We stayed for about 4 hours. We had pizza and drinks, then loads of fun on the go-karts and zip-lines. We also got 5$ worth of credits for the arcade. Once the 4 hours were up, we kept on driving, until dinner. Instead of eating at Chipotle, we stopped at Fire On the Mountain Wings, they were pretty good, but we didn’t get enough food. We kept driving, and at this point, it was very late (10:00pm – 10:30pm). We ended up arriving at the hotel around 11:00pm, so everyone was sent straight to bed. In the morning we had a good breakfast, then went to wolf haven, a wolf sanctuary. It was cool, just pretty boring. Once we left, we were on our home stretch to get home. It was a 5-hour drive. We ended up arriving at 8:50, so I still had a chance to say hi to my pet and family.

Blog thing for rich man

This semester in humanities, we had an awesome project that happened over the last few weeks! We researched old trades and land called conquering. We had 3 keystones, In the first keystone, we found out what groups we could be from. There were Rich men, poor men, indigenous, missionaries, and fille de roi. I was chosen to do the rich man group. We did a wheel picker to choose what group you were chosen into, so you could apply for any group, but you never know if you got into it. I overall thought this was a fun group of people to explore, and I also think they were interesting to study. For the second keystone, we started getting into groups to prepare for the 3rd keystone. We shared the information about our groups so we could learn about the other groups so we could do a AR maker (a presentation). Overall I think this was a great project, and fun to research with other people.

Science Germ Kid Poster Blog Post

Hi everyone! Today I will be talking about the project we did this semester for science. We made childrens health posters to make the more enthusiastic to wash hands or do other things to get rid of germs!

Kids these days are always looking to have fun, and with fun sometimes comes germs and other deseases, so this project was reminding them to wash their hands more thoroughly. I also learned alot from this This is the poster I made, it represents how if you dont wash your hand you can get germs and get sick. I think I did a pretty good job on it, however a few revisions I could have done is make the photos more clear and make the disco ball light come out of the ball not the thumb.

Well, thats it for my blog post today, thanks for reading and make sure to check my other stuff out!

Christopher Columbus Blog Reflection

This project was really fun and easy, but it also made me realize how important it is to critically examine historical figures and events. Christopher Columbus has traditionally been celebrated as a brave explorer who “discovered” America, but upon closer examination, his actions were actually quite problematic.

As we discussed in class and as I learned from my research, Columbus and his crew were responsible for the enslavement and mistreatment of Indigenous peoples, as well as the spread of diseases that decimated their populations. Additionally, Columbus did not actually “discover” America, as there were already thriving communities and civilizations on the land he encountered.

It’s important to acknowledge these truths and have open discussions about the complexities of history. Instead of blindly celebrating figures like Columbus, we should be willing to engage in critical conversations about their actions and the impact they had on different communities. Only by examining the past through a critical lens can we learn from it and move towards a more equitable future.

mPOL 2023

Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.

This is my very first year in PLP! I have had so many fun experiences, learning experiences and meeting new friends. This term I was focusing on learning what this program was actually about and not focusing on what “normal” people would focus on, the grades.  Normally I think people dont focus on school and only care about the marks they get on their report card, however I learned not to do that. Ok, lets dive into my mPOL of 2023!

This year in PLP we are doing an mPOL. A mPOL is a Midterm Project of Learning. This is what PLP uses to explain how we felt about this semester. Today I have  5 projects to share about. Avatar box, Making interesting Images, and Becoming a PLP learner, The Crusades and The outsiders.

This Year, we started off our year with a Becoming a PLP learner project. It taught us all about our iPads and how to use the apps in them. After we learned how to make our own Emoji of things we like on the laptop on the emojis. After that we made a dream board. A dream board is where you put things you love and stuff that is in your bucket list. The dream board was really cool to make. I made it using the copy and paste function on my iPad. I think my finished product look very cool.

This year I was most proud of my making interesting images project because I took some really good photos. My favourite skills when we made these, were the silhouette, the birds eye view, and the worms eye view. I also liked doing the Mood one. Overall i liked this project and I did good.

I struggled with the outsiders because I’m not the strongest at understanding what I’m reading and I wasn’t good at answering the questions. I found the book really weird and I didn’t really understand why a lot of things happened. However I did get all my reading roles done on time. I think this was my worst project this year, and I think if I read more, I can get a better mark next time we do a reading project.

One of my favourite projects was the avatar box. The reason I loved this project was because I enjoy making real things (not stuff on iPads). And in this project we designed a box reflecting on our room themes that were assigned to us. Exploited Recourses was mine, I did a box representing the company in the movie, the compony was cruel, only wanted to take over the planet of pandora, and they wanted to take over the Navi’s home so earth could move to pandora. For the box, I put a big bull dozer chopping trees that could have been held home to animals and the business just wants the lumber for money and land, representing that they don’t care about anything in their way, they just want money. I painted a $100 bill burning because once the business is big enough, they don’t fully care if they lose some money. I also had a city that was taller than the trees representing how they think cities are more important than living things. So overall this year I liked this project the most.

I found the crusades project interesting, partially on the work but mostly how I learned it. At first I found it super hard, I didn’t understand anything and I was so lost. Half way through the project I was getting the hang of it but at the end I was like a expert. So at first I didn’t like the project but at the end I fount it super fun! The project was based on the crusades, (obviously) however a lot of it was based around the church, and I found that really cool because the church was more powerful than the king. That was the exact moment all of this project clicked for me. I suddenly understood it. I found this project fun, however very interesting.

I think I could change the way I looked at projects at the beginning of the year. I always thought of them just being hard work but now I realize that its acutely more fun then just work. For example, I never really like the listening part but as soon and PLP teachers said we would be designing stuff, I got really excited. A few of these projects include the outsiders and the avatar box. The outsiders just felt like work loaded on to me while the avatar box was actually fun and engaging for me.

Overall, this term of PLP was fun, engaging, exciting and fun to explore. There were a few good projects, that were fun, and exciting. However a couple of them I didn’t enjoy. The ones I didnt enjoy just didn’t excite me. However all the other projects were awesome. I enjoy PLP and am going to continue next year!

Thank you for listening to my mPOL of 2023

Triptych

Hi everyone welcome back to my blog!

This semester we ended with making our own tryptich. It took our class over a month of hard work, and I worked extra hard on this final project. Today I will share what mine looks like!

(Questions – Answered

How did you make it? I made this with superimposeX, and I added all of the photos together on ProCreate

What did I learn? I learned how to use SuperimposeX, and I learned about the renaissance and how the triptych related to it.

Best parts, worst parts, Why? The best parts were making the images with SuperImposeX. The worst part was taking notes on the renaissance, it was SO boring.)

Left On my left pannel, its a photo of me as a rennisance person, and im looking though a very old telescope. This one is transitioning into a modern telescope that is looking at the moon. I also have a pocket watch to show the lens invention. On my face, I put glasses because of the lenses. Middle On the I have a iPhone that has flash on , showing how the light evolved I also have a new telescope that is looking at the moon. Im also wearing an apple watch to represent how time has evolved. Right On the right side, I put a sundile, to represent how time was told before the rennesance, and I also put no glasses in it because lenses were not created then. and to transition the light from my phone from the middle part, I put fire, because that was their only light back then. I reacted to the light by covering my eyes. And I also was not wearing my apple watch Now that you read that, you can look at my final product. Overall this projects was enjoyable (not at the beggining). The reason I say not at the begining is because we only were taking notes, and we didnt do any real fun work. NOW you can look at my finished tryptich
