Videos have been made and you will see, just how amazing Alberta can be.
An amazing trip to Alberta with fun and great views, and videos that just might be good news.
Between two blog posts posted in this internet nook, you will look at many cool videos, and a book!
Going to Alberta was a large project and amazing experience that entails two major components, which are Maker and Humanities! In Maker, a class where we learn about the tech component of PLP and this year specifically filming, we create a series of videos documenting and showcasing our learning done in our trip. We create four videos, three of which are filmed in Alberta, and one at home, the last one purely to showcase our skills in filming and editing.
I found making all these videos super enjoyable and I learned a lot about how not only to use apps like iMovie and CapCut, but how to make these videos desirable to watch and create something that has an entertainment aspect to it, which I found super interesting, and this is especially for my Silent Video (a video done with no noise and only inputted sound done in the editing stage), and my TikTok style video, which showcased fun on beat transitions and cool photos of where we went in Alberta.
Speaking of which, the first video I will be showcasing is my silent video, which as I said is completely silent and the story is conveyed through purely editing, body language and just general acting. I found it super fun to film, and I learned a lot about editing specifically in this project because during the editing stage we had to input sounds on CapCut, which was something I didn’t know previously how to do. We filmed this video at a cool area in the Shuswap Country Region, in a place called Three Valley Gap, which is a ghost town!
Below is my Silent Video titled, “Jealousy”.
As you can see, it is a short and fun film with a simple plot story, and I found it extremely fun to make. This was, in my opinion, one of the easiest videos of the four, partially because it was, like the TikTok style video, a group project and therefor the workload could be split. This brings me to the next video, which is the TikTok style video, and the other “easier” video of the four as it was done in a group of four.
The goal of the TikTok video was for it to match a popular trend on social media, while it also had to showcase and emulate something interesting and cool from Alberta, and we did this by taking videos of us jumping, and then clipping it to a photo of a location, almost as if we were jumping into the location. This both had transitions, and a showcasing of some of the best photos we got as group.

I also liked the fact that we beat synced it to the song we put in the background, and I think that was one of the main things that truly gave it the feel of a short form video that could be on social media. All of these videos we made were also put in a multitouch book, posted on my Humanities blog post, and also help showcase the trip from another perspective because they are videos, but also because they help show what we were learning on the trip and what we spent our time doing. The next video I did was my investigative video, which was probably the hardest video of the four, because the main part of the video was to document and record interviews done with people on the Alberta trip with the goal of finding out more about how the places they are in interact and effect them and the the West as a whole and are affected by our history, depending on whether they are are a tourist in the area.
Here is the my Investigative video, with three different interviews
The final video made in this project is the at home video, about “What Inspires Me?” And what I found most beneficial in learning from doing this video is the editing skills and knowledge gathered for CapCut and then implemented into my other videos as I did lots of the editing of the other videos after my at home video was finished. As I said, this video is all about “What Inspires Me?” And tells a story about me and my hobbies, dreams and purpose as a person, and includes as to the theme of the project, how that is impacted by where I live and how I was raised. I enjoyed making this video a lot because of how it not only allowed me to share what I enjoy and aspire to be, but allowed me to reflect on what I think my purpose is in life upon creating the video, and it helped me get to know myself a bit better, in a way.
Below is my What Inspires Me? Video
A large thing I am proud of in all my videos from the project is that they capture different aspects of the trip and criteria for the project, and they also make me remember the trip on a reflective level, because I can both commemorate upon looking back at the trip through the videos, and I can also understand how and what my learning process was throughout the trip by looking at my videos. Do you find yourself thinking about how we might’ve highlighted Alberta or created desire to go to certain places highlighted in the video? This is something I want to convey through my videos, and show how I can convey my learning through something as shareable as a video. Thanks for reading!
