The Vancouver Aquarium is currently recruiting 30 students for our Interpretive Delivery Summer Work Experience Placement.
As a work experience student, they will be working within a team of students, volunteers and staff to create the ultimate educational experience for all of our visitors this summer. Their days will be filled with fun tasks ranging from face painting to educating about penguins. Throughout their days they will have the opportunity to engage, amaze and inspire thousands of guests of all ages and from all around the world!

Students will volunteer 5 days out of the week during the dates below.  They will receive a schedule via email after their training.
Group A  (10 students)
July 1st-July 22nd
Group B (10 students)
July 22nd-August 12th
Group C (10 students)
August 12th-September 2nd
Shift times: 10:00am-6:00pm
Description of Volunteer
Opportunity:
·         Crafts
·         Operating Touchpools
·         In-Gallery Education (Centered at new Penguin Exhibit)
·         Facepainting
·         Child focused games and activities
Skills Preferred:
Please Note:
·         Outgoing, enthusiastic and self-motivated
·         Students currently in Grade 10, 11 or 12.
·         Genuine interest in working with the public, particularly children.
·         Strong communications skills
·         Experience with delivering excellent customer service
·         Second language an asset
This is not an animal handling position.  Students will have limited contact with marine animals. (Only experienced volunteers get this opportunity.)

Summer Camp for High School Students

Are you a high school student interested in a career in Forensics?
Do you know a high school student who might want to explore a Forensics career?

Students attending the 2010 CSI Academy in Burnaby

This summer camp is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to get hands on experience with real forensic techniques. Learn how real investigators examine and process crime scenes, as well as analyze evidence and use DNA technology to try to solve a crime.
We’re looking for high school students going into grades 10, 11 and 12 who want to gain insight into the educational requirements for entrance into the field of forensics, as well as information about programs here at BCIT that they can take to further their forensics careers.
What do students do and learn about at the Academy? Here’s some of the hands on experience they’ll receive:

  • Identifying and packaging evidence from a crime scene
  • Looking for and identifying trace evidence
  • Analyzing DNA using basic lab techniques

Students will also get the opportunity to learn first hand from real, practising professionals in the following fields:

  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Trace Evidence Analysis
  • Forensic Anthropology
  • DNA Analysis
  • Forensic Video and Photography
  • Forensic Knot Analysis

Street Hockey Volunteers wanted Play On!

Street hockey tournament which comes back to the streets around Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby on June 9th to June 10th 2012. We are looking for volunteers who want to participate at the event.

Each event involves closing nearly 1km of city streets at all times throughout an entire weekend. CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada Play On! tournaments feature hundreds of teams and thousands of participants and include separate divisions for both genders, all skill levels, and all ages. CityFest 2012 – May 5th, 12 to 4pm

The youth of North Vancouver will present CityFest 2012 on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 12pm to 4pm. CityFest 2012 will take place in the parking lot and skate park at Centennial Theatre. The event includes a skateboard competition, a youth art display, dance and drama performances, a live band showcase, a free photo booth and a free barbeque with food give-aways.
