Below you will find some details about the requirements for our paid instructor position. We also have volunteer opportunities available for students who do not meet our age requirements.

Over the years we have hired thousands of high school students from local lower mainland schools and this is because of school leaders like you!

For Summer, we are looking for students in grades 10-12 to apply with us as paid instructors (Must be turning at least 16 by December 31). We are also seeking volunteers from grades 8-12.

 

Details of the paid instructor position:

Instruct children from the beginner biking stage all the way to more advanced skill levels (road riding and mountain biking)

If students are able to ride a bike there will be a place for them to work as instructors (They do not have to be experts!)

Must be available to work all of July

Must be available from 8 am – 4 pm each day

First Aid is a major asset

Must have access to a bike and helmet

Details of the volunteer position:

Volunteers (Jr. Instructors) will assist instructors with teaching kids of various biking skill levels (ex. Setting up obstacle courses and riding with classes)

Must be available for at least one full week of  camps

All those that apply to become volunteers (grade 8’s and 9’s) will be accepted!

Youth Work Experience AquaCamps Leader

Summer Break 2019

Information sessions are on April 15, 24, 30.

Students must attend an information session to be considered.

Role summary:

You will have an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with children aged 4-12 in an educational setting, work on your communication and leadership skills, develop a sense of teamwork and explore career options. Specifically, you will:

Assist with the preparation, delivery and clean-up of Summer AquaCamps program.

Enhance participants’ experience through group activities using hands-on, interactive activity stations and props.

Help supervise and lead small groups of children during play and gallery exploration time.

Desired skills and experience:

Outgoing, enthusiastic and self-motivated

Special requirements:

The District of West Vancouver’s Annual Harmony Arts Festival would like to invite high school students of the North Shore to become festival volunteers. The Harmony Arts Festival is a 10-day event along West Vancouver’s Ambleside waterfront that celebrates the visual, culinary an performing arts. This outdoor community event receives over 300,000 visitors and consists of more than 150 volunteers.

 Our goal is to engage the community and that includes the youth. The Harmony Arts Festival is a great way for students to participate in the community and gain experience with the municipality.

North Van Arts is seeking up to 30 new volunteers for Art in the Garden, a volunteer-run event going into its 20th anniversary on May 25th and 26th, 2019. Each day students can volunteer for a full/half day or join us both days (especially if they haven’t met their minimum requirements). The responsibilities include greeting, giving information to, and charging visitors who attend this event.  

Please note Art in the Garden has 14 locations. Admissions Volunteers are stationed at each one and students can sign up with a friend if they wish.

Calling all students that will be in gr. 11 & 12 in September 2019. Coast Capital has a great opportunity for you to get some great PAID work experience hours and great hands on experience.

We are currently recruiting for a new team of Interns to begin their one-year term on July 1st, 2019.   We are looking for students that will be entering grade 11 or 12 in September 2019.  There are a total of 12 positions for the Metro Vancouver/Fraser Valley region.  Application will be accepted from Friday March 1, 2019 to Friday April 1, 2019.

Med Ed Conference for students

Interested in becoming a health care professional?  Check this out!!

 

Lions Gate Hospital Foundation’s Youth Advisory Committee has organized an amazing Med Ed Conference for students on the North Shore that will feature talks from doctors and other health care professionals as well as a student panel of med students and residents. Each presentation will give insight into the process of becoming a health care professional through their personal journeys and will provide tips and tricks to get into med school as well as answer audience questions. The conference is on Saturday, April 13th from 8AM-1PM at the HOpe Centre. Tickets are $25, with all proceeds benefiting Lions Gate Hospital Foundation to enhance patient care at our hospital.  http://lghfoundation.com/community_events/meded/.
