How Much The World Needs Canada!

How can we make the world a better place, with more Canada! And that’s exactly what the last PLP project was about why the world needs more Canada. This project was a mix between humanities and maker, so it was a mega project in a way.

You must be wondering what we did to prepare for the podcast, well in humanities the teachers had us analyze 3 different stories they were Tupelo, Totem, and The Jade Peony. After reading them we had to find the theme, plot, setting, characters you know that sort of thing. The story that made the most sense for me was Totem, and it was about a totem pole that shows up in an art museum and the people working there want to get it out. But I feel all the stories Looked at in class were easy to comprehend, and fun to read.

The preparation we did in maker was all about building our podcasting skills. In the fisrt week we were working on brainstorming what makes a good podcast, like multiple people, an interview, background music, intro music, and a strong topic were some of my examples.

After that we made a 1-2 minute podcast on one of our hobbies or passions, yup we just made a podcast after that and my topic was about the greatest cerial ever Cinnamon Toast Crunch or (ctc) for short. This was one of the hardest parts because we didn’t have much guidance but it was one of tye most fun parts because we could talk about anything.

When making the podcast we needed cover art and intro music. This part was pretty fun but also hard because there was no template given we had to either make it from scratch, or use a template, and even though I didn’t make intro music I made a cover and I think it looks pretty cool, the process included reaserch, brainstorming, creation, revision, and the finalization. Although I didn’t get any peer critique I think it turned out good. Image here

The final humanities prep before the podcast was a multi paragraph composition that we would later turn into the script for our podcast. The hardest part about the composition was not knowing what to write it was actually typing out the composition, because my keyboard stopped working and I had to use the digital keyboard on the iPad. I actually liked this part because I want to improve my grammar, flow of writing, and spelling.

I bet you are super interested about my podcast topic well so was I, it was about why more countries should follow Canadas lead in using clean energy sources to preserve the earth. The way I found my topic was a google search pretty lame but it works, and I was able to relate the topic to something I am pretty interested in Nuclear power, and you could be thinking “that’s a contradiction you were talking about clean energy nuclear power isn’t clean” I mean an energy source that doesn’t emit gases into the atmosphere.

When creating the podcast the biggest setbacks and ways I overcame them were: not understanding GarageBand I just watched a few tutorials on YouTube, not having any music/sound effects I used the included sounds in apples GarageBand, not having a microphone to record the audio I went in my closet to maximize the quiet and spoke loudly so my recording is eligible, and finally not really knowing how to edit the audio I just listened to podcasts to better understand them.

My final thoughts on the project are how engaging it was, for every activity we were doing there was something to do like the Quiziz, and the summary of the stories. The wish I have is about maker class, although I liked how some parts were unstructured like the first 2 minute podcast we did, I wish there were a few more skills we were worked on, for example an activity where we practice editing audio. Other than that I enjoyed making my podcast and listening to my classmates podcasts. Listen to all episodes here but other than that thanks for reading Sidney out
