Over the past couple weeks we prepared for our Summer Exhibition 2022. This exhibition would be similar to what we did for The Outsiders project earlier in the year. In this project we would be in big groups with the grade 9s. We would guide the parents through different room as if they were new grade 8s going into PLP and learning all about what PLP is and what the different aspects of it were. The different rooms and their driving questions were:
- Introduction (What is PLP?)
- Project Pathway (How do we learn?)
- Beyond the Classroom (How do we make deeper connections beyond our classroom?)
- Tech for Deeper Learning (How do we use technology to deepen our learning?)
- Conclusion (What is a PLP learner?)
I was in the Project Pathway room. My group mates were Ronan, Seth, Ruby, Jasper, Brooke, Hannah, Max, and Kadin in grade 8 and Dylan, Sabrina, Sylas, Mateo, Gwen, Luca, Clare, and Teva in grade 9.
We started planning immediately. We drafted plans for everything we would include. The idea was that each person would walk through the room and go through the different stages of the project path. At the end, the visitor would know what the project path was and have seen work from both grades. This is our final map:
I was running a drawing activity where people could draw or critique other people’s drawings in order to get a piece of candy. There was a big screen showing a slideshow of grade 8 work. I was also showing off three pieces of work that I had to revise via a keynote presentation. Click here to read the presentation.
In the lead up to the exhibition, we did lots of preparation. We painted signs, printed work, brought materials, and set up then room. When everything was ready, we went and ate dinner then guided the visitors through the room. The exhibition was a lot of fun. This is a picture of me at my station:
This project was really enjoyable. I was really good at managing tasks and getting a lot of things done in a short period of time. I struggled a little bit with communication because the group size was so big and it was hard to manage who was doing what. I think most of the people who went through the exhibition had a great time. By the time they had left the room they knew how to answer the driving question. We learn by using the steps laid out in the project path. Launch, building knowledge, develop and critique, and present and reflect.
