A Day In The Life Of A Realtor 🏡
For Take Your Kid To Work Day my mum took me all around Vancouver to check out open houses and to show me what her day as a realtor looks like! For context my mum is a buyer, and seller agent realtor, and she is apart of the Kelsie & Morgan Group here in Vancouver. I’ve been to her office, and open houses before, so it isn’t completely new to me. My mum surprised me with the locations of the houses we went to, and i even got to see a house being prepared for listing. It was a great experience, I met a ton of people my mum works with, and I got to experience more of Vancouver.
I learnt a lot about real estate, like the different jobs a realtor can have, as well as the many steps to buy/sell a house. I even learnt how to (behind the scenes) print out a Tour Sheet, with a fancy printer.
As I am a PLP learner, to go along with the Maker video learning right now, we had to create a video to capture our day! To make this video we had to plan it out. We had one class to plan the video out, every single thing! I felt kind of overwhelmed when it came to filming, since my plan was all over the place really. But I am happy to say that I am very proud of my final video, and I think it is very appealing to the eye, but at the same time shows what my day was like as a realtor. I relied on transitions, camera angles, and a lot of B-roll, for the entertainment aspect. In our video we had to include an interview, I interviewed my mum, and I used the interview as kind of like a voice over, but I just extracted the sound and put it in where there was lots of footage and B roll. The video was 2 minutes max, and I struggled very much to get it anywhere close to that, my final time was slightly over. I did all of my video editing in Cap Cut, and made sure to remember to film everything landscape (somehow)

(I begged a whole lot for that starbuckssss)
I learnt so much today, but something that I think will be really useful for my future is the fact that not everything is simple. Obviously I knew that there were simple steps to buy/sell a house, but now I know that it isn’t so simple. A lot goes in to houses before they are listed/put on the market, like painting/renovating. Also when you buy a house you have to select all of these things, and you have to try to get the most appealing offer handed in so it gets accepted. Another thing I took away from my day as a realtor is honestly just getting better at talking to random people as well as confidence as I was pretty much filming everywhere I went.
I hope to one day follow my dad around even though he works from home, and his work hours are too weird for me. So I can see what he does every single day-well I guess night. (He works Australian hours here in Canada)
Anyways, thanks for reading, maybe this will inspire you to go ask your parents about their job! Click the button below to look at some cool houses all across Canada!
