The Haudenosaunee Peace

Introduction

In this passage, I will explain how the Haudenosaunee people have organized peace among their people, and why it works. “Haudenosaunee” means, “they build the house” what I think means unity and togetherness.

Where are they located?

The Haudenosaunee people are a confederacy, located just below Lake Ontario in the USA. Haudenosaunee People have split up their land into confederacy, with five territories in  total, all still in unity.

How they kept peace

They all had respect for one another, and for their land. They also had a sort of governing system, somewhat like the UN. There would be one Peacemaker, who would ask for 1 leader from each of the five territories, each of these leaders would be the chief of their territory, and they would join the grand council. The grand council would make decisions for all of the territories. The clan mother would be able to choose each leader, as they had watched the leaders grow up.  To have peace in the nation, everybody believed the same things: we need peace to build us up, without peace we would crumble, exploitation of themselves would lead to downfall, and having peace means being happy.

Why it worked for the Haudenosaunee

For the Haudenosaunee, keeping peace worked because everybody would believe the same thing, which would achieve unity and a worldview of peace. Having multiple leaders and a governing system would help them even further, keeping each other in line, and having prosperous land, because they cared for it. (The fact that they had Lake Ontario right above them also helped with fertile land, food and water.)

Conclusion

The Haudenosaunee is a group of five territories, under Lake Ontario. They have multiple leaders, one from each territory mixed into a governing group called the grand council. The Haudenosaunee people all believed in the same thing, they all havre a worldview of peace, and they knew that peace was the only way.
