Learning Lots About: Drawing

Introduction

For this project, we explored drawing in the sketches pro app, and how to use it. This project was particularly hard for me because, I really dislike drawing, and I find that it takes too long to achieve something that I am not happy with.

Lines and Pressure

This is our first “benchmark” where we would learn the basics of drawing. We learnt about every pen, brush and tool on the toolbar, how they worked, and how pressing harder on the pen would make a line thicker. For this section, we just drew basic shapes and lines, and just fiddled around. Here’s what the toolbar looks like:

Lights, shadows, and Doodling

For this section, we doodled 3D shapes and had to shade them in! Overall this part was pretty simple and there isn’t much to explain so, here’s what this looked like over three shapes I drew:

As you can see, I drew a cylinder, a triangular pyramid, and a rectangle, we had a reference image to see how to shade, which is why my drawing doesn’t look too bad! Secondly, in this section we also doodled a robot, out of all of the shapes we learnt how to draw. Here’s what my “Robert the robot” looks like!

Expressing Colour

In this section we learnt what different colours meant, and how certain colours show certain emotions. This is the chart we had for that: (not all colours are shown in this image)

Our own name

Now with our previous knowledge, this part wasn’t so hard, but nonetheless we put it to the test with a quick drawing of our name using; any tool of our choice, and any colour. This is what I came up with!

 Making an Emoji

As another short test/assignment, we had to make our own emoji, again with no limit or criteria. Making the Emoji was probably one of the tougher things we had to make, as it had to look good and not have too much detail while still looking simple and useable. I took a spin on the classic goat emoji “🐐” and incorporated my favorite French soccer/football player; Zinedine Zidane.

Crafting Our Logo

We made a logo? Yes! We had to make up a fictional company and complete a design brief to make a logo of that fictional company. For my fictional company, I created a lobster fishing company called “The Lobster Shed” here’s what my finished design looks like:

Conclusion

Overall, this project was actually fun and I enjoyed making the logo. I learned a lot about drawing and all about techniques and colours (specifically what they do, and what they mean.) Next time we have to do something about drawing, I will be more ready and will get to use my new found skills!
