Introduction
🏎️ How can we use storytelling to investigate what sparked global exploration and understand its impact?🏎️
Over the course of one and a half months, we have been learning about the age of exploration or more specifically, when the Europeans went exploring all over the world to exchange goods and take more land. We learnt about the three main motivators for the Europeans as well, which include: God, Glory, Gold. The “God” part in their motivation was about the Europeans wanting to spread their christian and catholic religion. Gold and glory being more self explanatory (gold as in riches, and glory as in glory and fame.) We also learn about major events like the Colombian exchange, which in short brought disease, spices, slaves and food between Europe and the americas.
The main focus
Now that you know the background information, you can see what the rest of the project has built up to. Firstly, we would use the classic “story mountain” story outline, with an exposition, rising action, climax, etc. We would write out a story about what we learnt and how the first contact between Europeans and indigenous Canadians went. The next step after writing our story out and having been critiqued is to make our drawings which we would use as objects to place over our story. After this, we would get familiar with the app “ArMakr” which is an app which lets you place virtual objects in the real world, it sounds a bit confusing but it will make sense when you see the final product.
Conclusion
This project has taught me all about the exchanges (good and bad) between Europe and the americas, the history of how everything happened, as well as the aftermath of everything. I also learnt lots about the Colombian exchange, and the cause and consequence of it.
