POL Declaration
Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.
What I am proud of this semester
Starting off of on a positive note, I’m going to talk about what I think I did a good job on. Firstly, I would like to talk about the Destination imagination provincial tournament! In provincials my team did very good! Landing in second place for our category challenge, and first place for our instant challenge. Just like the DI regional tournament, our team worked well together, we ironed out some of the problems we had, and accounted for adding in a new group member on the script, this is a challenge we overcame and it displayed our flexible teamwork, speaking of teamwork, I feel like our teamwork was exceptional, and we were able to communicate well, which I believe is something that led us to getting first place in the instant challenge. During DI I feel like I was very open to ideas, and was helping out my group members in respectful ways. Providing constructive criticism to build my group up.
Another project which I displayed leadership In was the consequences of colonization project, specifically in the keynote. Within my group, I feel I did a good job motivating my group members and gave helpful feedback to them. I worked together with my group to make something we were all happy with, and in the end we achieved that. After a draft or two, we figured out what to fix, and by the end, it looked very polished and neat! This was our final result:
Consequences of colonization PRESENTATION HERE
During this project, I displayed my learning throughout the process of creating the keynote, facing slight challenges (mostly with design) and overcoming them through drafts! I even put my motto to use! (I have to do it anyways so why not just do it now?) This motto helped me with procrastination, and made me think of things in a different way. I have also improved the general quality of my blog posts since my mPOL and the beginning of the year, there is more content in them that makes sense, its not packed with filler content and just has what it needs, for the most part I have been writing in a sort of format I have developed, which helps me make my blog posts not only consistent, but also organized!
How have I achieved goals? What can I improve on for next year?
From the reflective learning chart, I have something new to focus on which has become somewhat of a problem, and this is under the preparation section. The issue isn’t not being prepared because of not doing prior work, but instead the fact that I arrive to fourth block class a minute or so after the bell. This is because I play soccer at lunch with all my friends outside, and I usually don’t keep track of the time, because I am having fun with my friends playing soccer, so by the time we hear the bell ring we arrive in class just as the bell rings, or a minute late. I have realized this is a bad habit, and I am fixing it day by day! So far, wearing a watch or checking the time on my phone has helped mitigate the problem!
How am I ready for grade 9?
To answer the driving question of “How can you showcase evidence to demonstrate that PLP Success Behaviours have prepared you to advance to the next grade?”, I would first like to reference the reflective chart that we filled out in Showbie. I want to find what I am doing badly, and fix it! Since I’ve already mentioned one of the competencies, which was preparation, I want to address the others:
Communication and collaboration is something that I feel I am good at, and this year I have been able to showcase that through projects like the recent the spring exhibition. I always do my part in a project, give helpful feedback (and take it as well), within my groups, I also try to encourage group members and build them up. This is one of my strong suits that will keep me prepared for grade 9!
However, something that I need to work on a bit is seeking help when I need it. Sometimes in class when I don’t fully understand something, I don’t always ask for help or clarification. This doesn’t mean that I don’t ever ask for help, but just not regularly. This is something that can prepare me for grade 9 and be used to build up good habits. Speaking of habits, building up good habits is something that I will use in the coming grade 9 year to improve my learning, because just like a quote I heard at the graduation ceremony, “If you put in the same effort every time, you’re going to get the same result every time.” Just like my mPOL, I had a “motto” or quote to build my learning off of, and this time, this is going to be my motto! In my year in grade 9, my learning will be more polished, since I now know how to put the apps on my iPad to use (for the most part.) It will also be more polished because after getting feedback over my grade 8 year, I can find common problems in my work.
My common problems
Over the course of the year, I have received feedback over my work. I have found a few things that seem to be a reoccurring theme. One of those things being formatting, design or just organization in general. This is something that stands out because our most recent project was focused on advertisement, but my work is usually not the most neat (especially if drawn by hand.) I am pretty sure I talked about organization in my mPOL, and this time is no different. Not to say I didn’t improve organization, just that know that I have learnt about it in our most recent project, I want to put what I have learnt to use! In future projects, I can reference the design tool book we made in craft over multiple lessons! You can view mine right here: (It might not be the neatest because it was just some quick notes to jot down during class)
Conclusion
In conclusion, this year has been great! I am excited to start grade 9 in PLP and work on some goals I made in this POL, and thank you for listening to my 2024 transitional presentation of learning!
