“The sun’s gonna rise tomorrow”

A Day at Tiddlycove Montessori School

I want to start off by saying thank you to preschool teachers. I spent my day at Tiddlycove Montessori school, and I don’t know how the teachers do it! They are so patient and understanding, and although the kids are very cute, they are a lot to handle. So thank you, thank you to my parents, my preschool teaches, and everyone who had to deal with me as an annoying kid. What did I actually learn at Tiddlycove? Well that’s what we are about to find out! I shadowed the owner of Tiddlycove, Tara Mason. She taught me what its like to run a business, how communication is key, and how she started her business. Lets get into it!

Firstly I learned what goes into running a business. In childcare, there are specific licences and codes you need to have in order to be able to operate. These could include staff members being licensed, fire safety codes, and child safety codes. With owning a business there is lots of responsibility, you are responsible for everyone and everything in your workplace. You are also in charge of hiring and firing staff. Everything relies on you, which can get stressful and overwhelming, but it pays off when you can see the achievements that happen, and know its because of you!

Another very important thing in owning a business is communication. This could be communicating with parents, with kids or with staff members. In Tara’s business, they rent space from a church so communication with the church is incredibly important. Another part of communication is building relationships. If you can have a meaningful conversation with someone, you are building a relationship. When owning a business you want to have those relationships because people talk. You want people to come back to your business or recommend you to other people, and this is an incredible way to do so.

I loved going to Tiddlycove so much that I even made a video about it! It definitely wasn’t an assignment. In all seriousness I truly had an amazing time going to work with Tara and I hope you enjoy watching my video!

Even though they were a lot to handle, I had to much fun getting to spend the day the day with the kids at tiddlycove Montessori school. Thank you to Tara for letting me come into her work, and thank you to all her amazing staff that welcomed me in. I learned so much about starting a business, something I’ll hopefully achieve one day!

Siddy Giddy out! ✌️
