mPOL
Hello and welcome to my 2025 mPOL!
DECLARATION:
Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.
At the beginning of the year I created my vision mission and values. This highlighted the main focuses for my grade 10 year. I shared who I wanted to be at graduations and what I would do to make my vision come true. I chose 3 success behaviours and explained how they would help me achieve my vision. The 3 I chose were conduct, ethics and integrity, self regulation, and agency. Throughout this school year I have worked hard in my classes to show my high proficiency in these success behaviours.
I have put my thermometer nearly at the top. Not quite boiling yet, but pretty close, a simmer perhaps? I put this because I demonstrate these success behaviours, but there are areas for growth where I could do a better job at staying consistent. In my VMV I pushed myself to complete homework right after school with no distractions. I end up getting my homework done, but there are times where I don’t follow this. I come home take a nap, or go on my phone for a bit and then put off doing the homework. This is an area I will continuously need to work on. Recognizing this I have given myself a few strategies to help with this. Using pomodoro timers alllow me to lock in for a specific amount of time then take a 5 minute break. I also find it helpful to create an environment that keeps me calm and focused. I usually set a candle and have a tea. The last strategy is putting my phone on do not disturb. This limits the amount of notifications I get which helps me stay focused. If just putting my phone on do not disturb doesn’t help, sometimes I will place my phone in a completely different room to get rid of the distraction completely.
An area I have been able to consistently do well at is managing my time with my sports and homework. This is something I have been working at and I keep getting better at each year. This has been one of my busiest years so far, yet I remain on top of my homework while attending my after school activities. I have a strong understanding of my schedule and understand when ill have time to complete homework. If I know I wont have time on Thursday night to complete something I know I need to spend some time on Wednesday to finish it. Planning ahead and working backwards is a way I am able to stay on top of my busy schedule and stay on track with homework.
To achieve more depth in my learning I think I could challenge myself more. Push myself to take risks by showing a deeper level of sophistication. Instead of taking the easy way out. I will use the feedback my teachers have given me, and implement it to create a stronger end product. Tutorial is a great way and time for me to speak to my teachers 1 on 1 about what I have created and what I can improve on. I would also like to take more risks in my learning by getting more creative. Romeo and Juliet and the memorials are two projects where creativity is key. These projects have been some of my favourite too. I want to push myself in the second semester to incorporate more creativity into all my projects. Thinking about new ways I can enhance a project. For example, Instead of going back and adding the same music into every podcast, I want to get more creative. What sound effects or instruments can I add? What emotion do I want to display? Adding these things into my learning in the second semester will allow me to push myself and achieve a deeper level of learning.
This year I have grown so much, sadly Not in height. Reading atomic habits transformed the way I look at adding or removing habits. I have been able to show a sophisticated level of thinking across all areas of PLP. I contribute to in class discussions, something I found challenging before. I have learned more about myself and what a career might look like for me. I am so excited to see what the rest of my year in PLP 10 looks like! Thanks for listening to my mPOL and have a great rest of your day
