My Canada

My Canada is a competition made for people living in Canada. For the competition, we have to make a 30 second video explaining what Canada means to us. For me, I chose community.

Why I chose my topic-
Since I’ve moved to Canada, I’ve noticed that the community (especially in Vancouver) is quite close, helpful and fun. An example, all of the youth activities they have, all the programs and opportunities that we are given by people who want to make the community close.
when I moved here, I moved to a new school (obviously, since I lived in Australia) and everyone was super nice and inviting. We were supposed to only be in Canada for a year, but we liked it here in Vancouver and here we are almost five years after we were supposed to return. We made lots of friends, and we are now part of the North Van community.

The community where I live and why its so good-
Like I said before, the community in North Van is medium sized and close. You can almost always spot someone you know when your at events put on by the local rec centres and schools. Thats another thing. The community here always has some kind of event or activity you can go to, from the Pre-Teen Parkgate Dances in grades four and five, to the youth drop-ins, and BBQ’s and small “fairs” (they are more like advertisement booths with little games and a hotdog stand). Always places you can go for help, a good time or even just relaxing in the library.

My Video-

How I made my video-
For my, My Canada video, I used multiple apps and programs (actually, just apps) to create the end product.
The apps I used;
Explain Eveything
Garage Band
iMovie
Heres My Canada
YouTube

How I used these apps-

Explain Everything~
With explain everything, I made all the animation and most of the videos screen. So the writing and the drawings that appear on the screen through the video are all made and drawn on Explain Everything (and I drew it all without an Apple Pencil)

Garage Band~
With Garage Band, I made the music you can hear playing faintly in the background

iMovie~
iMovie is where I brought everything together and added voice over. So thats where I added the music, the accessories (the last tab in the video that says “My Canada” and a heap of information that lasts about 2 seconds), the voice over and the video itself and made all the finishing touches.

Here’s My Canada~
In the Here’s My Canada app, I uploaded my video to the competition.

YouTube~
With youtube, I posted my Heres my Canada video so that you can tap the link above under the “My Video” section and watch it for yourselves.

Why I Think “My Canada” Is Pretty Cool-
For Canada’s 150th birthday, people all around Canada get to make a video explaining what Canada means to them. Sure, anyone can do that anytime. But this time is special, because its for a big Birthday for Canada, the video you make is part of the celebration. You get to share it with everyone else who’s doing the competition and or wants to see what Canada means to Canadians (even if they are one themselves). With the My Canada competition going on, its cool to see what Canada means to other Canadians and why Canada is important in general (and yes, one reason IS that people live there).

What Canada means to me-
Canada means many things to me; Its where I live, its where I go to school, its where lots of my family is and where I am. The community in North Van is great, and it shows a lot about how great being Canadian is. Our community is always having great ideas for different ways to get together and make our community closer. Like I said before, you can almost always find someone you know when you go to public community events. The community is always there to help, and always there to entertain. Ad there’s always somewhere to go to and something to do. And there’s always someone there to talk to. For me thats important. It would suck to live in a place where there are no events or opportunities to be with the people around you and having fun. And it would suck to walk around and not recognize someone to say hello to because the community isn’t close. So I say that I am lucky to live in a place with such a good community. Its a big part of why I enjoy living here so much, and its a big part of being Canadian.

Thank you for reading, Im done now.

Second video (yeah, I made another one)
