A Leap Of Faith

“Who am I? That’s one secret I’ll never tell. Xoxo, Gossip Girl”

I am myself. When someone asks who I am, I respond with “I am just me”.

In Maker 10, we have begun our Career Life Education course, and for our very first project, we took surveys and did a presentation……. on ourselves.

[THE EXISTENTIAL QUESTION]

We have just started our Career Life Education course, and the very first presentation we did, was to answer the question of all questions

Who Am I?

The thing is, I’m super uncomfortable with the idea of the future. It’s scary and serious most of the time. Especially now, when it’s all about planning jobs and stuff that really help someone thrive in the world.

The best way to thrive in the world is to be yourself, and what better way to figure out who you are, than to take some internet surveys on myblueprint.ca?

We took surveys to find out our-

-Personality Type

-Learning Style

-Interest Type

-Favourite Subjects

-Top Motivations

Then, we made a keynote! The keynote was presented by us to our class, where we talked about what made us us, and how the results of our surveys conveyed that.

I was not overly surprised by how the results came out. These were the results, and what I throughly about them:

PERSONALITY TYPE —> ISTJ

My personality type is ISTJ, which stands for Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, and judging. None of these surprised me except for judging. I don’t consider myself a very judgey person.

Introverted makes sense, because I have a tendency to be introverted. I like being alone with a book more than I like making small talk.

Sensing because I am very aware of other people and myself.

And thinking makes sense because I sometimes realize that I’ve been lost in thought without saying words for extended amounts of time.

LEARNING STYLE —> VISUAL

I am a visual learner. Which is kind of ironic since my eye-sight is actually pretty bad.

Being a visual learner means that I learn best when I can see what I am learning. I learn easier seeing things than I do when it’s I’m being taught just by having things explained verbally.

Learning this made sense to me, I’ve always learned easier this way so it doesn’t surprise me at all.

INTEREST TYPE —> TRAILBLAZER

My interest type is trailblazer. It makes sense because a trailblazer is creative, outgoing, they think outside of the box, and they don’t agree with the status quo.

On the website it says a trailblazer is the kind of person I would go to when I don’t know what to do. I agree with this. I tend to follow people with that kind of “aura” (I don’t know if that’s the right word), not because I’m scared to take their roles sometimes, but because it’s their natural thing to do and I prefer to do my natural quieter thing too.

FAVOURITE SUBJECT(S) —> LANGUAGE ARTS

Learning that my top three subjects were Language Arts, Creative Arts, and Language, came to no surprise to me. There’s nothing that I do nearly as well or enjoy as much (except maybe music) as reading and writing. Reading and writing have been my strongest areas my whole life, and so I was expecting results like these to come out of the subject area survey.

TOP MOTIVATION —> ACHIEVEMENT

At first I read that my top motivation was achievement and judged it deeply. Achievement could not possibly be my top motivation.

……Except that I realized, it is. I realized that I like to know that what I’m doing is for a purpose and that something will come out of it. My top motivation isn’t exactly the success but the need for the things I do to come out having made a difference.

WHAT I LEARNT —> I am in fact still me.

What I learnt from taking these surveys was that I am still myself. In the end, I should still follow my passions, and make the best of what I’ve got. I learnt that I know myself better than I seem to think, and that I should use that to my advantage in the future when finding what I want to do with my life.

[TWO STEPS FORWARD, NO STEPPING BACK]

The future is scary. It’s scary because I can plan, and plan, and plan, and I can try to follow that plan, but it will NEVER go 100% they way that I want it to. That terrifies me. So I avoid looking into the future too much and now I’ve been tasked to do assignments and plan it all out and I just couldn’t quite do it. Every time I think about the future after high school all I know is I want to be happy.

We were told to do a grad plan, and I can do that. I will take the courses necessary to be able to go to post-secondary if that’s what I decide. Next year I will be taking lots of language arts classes, while I have lots of friends doing sciences. I am almost 100% sure I will not be going into anything scientific in the future, and I know that I want to do something related to arts, so I’ve decided to complete all the requirements to follow that path.

After grad I really am unsure what I want to do. MyBlueprint recommended things such as becoming a metalworker, a musician, or a landscaper. All those sound pretty reasonable to me. I want to do something where I am enjoying myself and I am working to make a difference, weather that means I totally ignore these recommendations or if I follow them, I need to be doing something I love. I was thinking of going to uni to get my Masters Of Business Administration, because I have done some research, and for someone who hasn’t quite decided what they want to do, it opens up my options to great work/career opportunities.

[FOR FOREVER]

I never thought I would have to plan my future so soon. It always seemed (and seems) so far away. I prefer to go with the flow and live in the moment. I don’t like stressing about the future because it will come as it comes. I know it is good to be prepared, and so I doing that to the best of my abilities. I am willing to take on the future as it comes.

I am working towards a bright future little by little, and that is what is important to me. I want to do what I love and love what I do. I want to take the steps to get to the places that are important to me.  That’s all that I could possibly want for my education and my time after my academic education.

Thanks for reading!!!
