Recently we’ve been working with making photos. To do this we added filters, experimenting with different angles, and trying different shapes. We’ve also learned a lot about the rules about photography. We learned the rule of thirds. This rule states that in the object of the picture should go to the third area of the picture. We also learned how to make it so a grid can go over the photo and we can actually apply the rule of thirds.
The main focus of this unit was to learn how to tell a story with a photo. That’s why for some of my photos you’ll see a mysterious setting and filter, and some you’ll see a bright happy filter. This gives an interesting idea of what it is. Another thing I did to tell a story was to recreate an old photo. I did 2 in this case. This showed a story about how everything has changed in the years since these photos were taken.
One of the biggest things that I’ve learned to do is how to turn everyday objects into interesting images. For example, many times we went around the school and took interesting images of everything we thought was cool. This really made me think about how things I find boring and ordinary can really tell an interesting story. This gives a photo a deep story.
The 3 skills that I found the most useful are 1, adding filters and backgrounds, 2, manufacturing moods, and 3, using interesting shapes. Adding filters and backgrounds is so cool because through these things you can take an image that might no have been very good and turn into something extraordinary. I think manufacturing moods was important because when you manufacture a mood, it tells a story, and that was the whole point of the unit. Using interesting shapes was also really important because when you add shapes to a photo you can really make it interesting and in depth.
