As I’m writing this, we’ve just finished our annual spring exhibition. This exhibition was called ‘Pathways.’ This exhibition was special to me because it’s my last exhibition. I’m back in mainstream school next year, so this is one of my last PLP events.
Our project for this exhibition was our ads. If your refer back to my previous post about Oregon you’ll know that we were split into groups and interviewed some local Oregon businesses. I was put into the High Life Adventures. Once again, if you see my previous post you’ll know that on the second day we went zip lining. It was really fun. From what I’ve heard from my classmates, it was a high light for everybody.
When we got home from Oregon we started learning about advertising techniques. We talked about pathos, logos, and ethos and how you can use them to your advantage while making advertisements. We then started to come up with ideas and created a first draft of our ad.
I say first draft because in that project, nobody does just one draft. I did about 8 in total. But that’s nothing! One kid in my group did 23! You can see the evolution of my drafts in the LAUNCH journal below. The final product was an ad for our businesses.
After we finished our project we started to plan out how we would present them. By my group, I was elected the directly responsible individual. That means I was responsible for our groups progress and making something great. This was I cool but a little nerve-racking because if our group didn’t do well, it would’ve fallen back on all of us, but especially me. Our group decided to work on a nature theme for our area because when we interviewed them, High Life Adventures said that they really valued nature as a business.
I’ll admit that I was a little nervous for this. None of my friends were in my group and I had no idea how this was going to turn out. But I was pleasantly surprised. One kid in my group named Jannik stayed up and made 120 cookies. Another kid named Logan walked to the store during his free period and bought the things we were short of. And no matter what time it was, whenever I pinged them that we needed something they would always respond. To create the nature theme we needed we used the drama room trees, then put on calming forest music, then plugged in a diffuser to give it a pine smell, then we arranged plants around the table. We also strung up our ads on a string to make it look they were zip lining. We also served cookies and lemonade to each person that came to our station.
Even though this exhibition was a lot of work and very stressful it was a lot better than the winter exhibition. I think our whole class really improved and put on a great exhibition.
